Had you driven one before or just decide to go for it? The 94-96 interiors are the best- the trip will probably be pretty comfy.
I had a Millenium Yellow 2001 Coupe for a few years. Now I have a 2010 Cyber Gray Grand Sport. I never drove a ZR-1, but I knew I wanted one and wasn't disappointed.

The first thing I noticed about the trip was how comfortable the seats are. That is, once you actually get in the car. Better than my '10 to be honest.

When I was on the way out of El Paso, some Infiniti decided to come up on my rear. I turned the key to full and downshifted into 4th. I was blown away by how fast that car became a speck in my mirror. Gobs of power. A nice, linear curve...not the neck-snapping force that my '10 has.

So the speed limit that is posted is 80? I know in the land of socialists republic of CA, we had it at 75, but it never lasted more than a month.

There is a 500 mile stretch of Interstate 10 from East El Paso County to Kerrville, Tx that is marked 80 mph speed limit.

Well if you top out 4th gear in an LT5- you are over 140 mph...If the speed limit is 70 or 80 mph is just an academic argument you can make from the back of the highway patrol's cruiser.

How strict are the LEO's at enforcing the 80? Can you go 85 and they would leave you alone?

Yes.

Inch up on 90 and they will cite you. And while some are courteous, most Texas DPS aren't known for their pleasant demeanors.

When we did the Fiero trip to San Antonio in 2010, we ran past a parked TDPS without raising his attention at about 85 somewhere near Ozona. One did stop me (and issue just a warning) for no front plate about 50 miles out of El Paso. The dude was probably 28 and looked 17. I was tempted to ask him if his momma knew he was playing policeman, but thought better of it.

He was more interested in two Fieros buzzing down I-10 in the middle of nowhere than anything. He wasn't even really sure what the car was. We spent 30 seconds discussing my lack of a front plate, and 5 minutes talking about the car. I told him the last one rolled off the line when he was still in diapers. He got a kick out of that.

Oh...and BTW....the bloodbath on that stretch of highway that the naysayers predicted with 80 MPH never happened.

I loved that stretch of road long before the speed limit was raised to 80. I need to revisit it...

I lived in Odessa from 80 to 96. Very familiar with that stretch. I don't care for the night time slow down though. I just got back from Tucson again and had the cruise control set to 80 almost the whole way. AZ, NM and TX were all 75 but OK is still behind at 70. Friz, I was going to drop you a note to try to get together but we came through Deming at 1:00 am last Sat and no time yesterday coming home.

I thought the only birds that could survive in Canada would be Geese and Penguins....and the penguins would still be in the wrong hemisphere.
