As much as I like skylights, I would never have them here. Because of their design and fit, you can't really insulate them. Now the new glass helps, and in your climate this really isn't a major issue. The new thing here are light tunnels, sort of a smaller skylight, that tunnels the sunlight to where you want it, but still allowing it to be fully insulated

Watch it doggy, no butt pirates here, but keep your sheep under lock and key. These rednecks can't leave them alone......We just removed a 4'x4' skylight in the family room , couldn't get it to stop leaking and the light faded 2 of my wifes expensive paintings. Now the rooms much warmer and the ceiling is spotless.. Skylights are a pain in the butt as far as Im concerned...WW

You tell them Wayne!
Uhm, those expensive paintings, they wouldn't have been JD paintings by any chance?

Mine don't leak (water anyway), but do feel drafty. I've contemplated just removing them completely. Can't say I'd miss them.

Sweetsie....you guys actually get enough sunlight for light tunnels? They work....what.....2 hours a day?

Wouldn't actually have to rain there first to leak. I was leaning more towards yours being sand proof

OK Mr. smartass, in the summer we get about 18 hours of daylight, winter the opposite. Now I know you boys that live near the equator can't visualize this, but for Christ's sake try

Friz, this is out of the question. My garage is so big that it will take me time and money to set it up for it to be properly insulated. The doors, it goes all the way to the roof and the back door would need to be re-done.

I make this a long-term project just like the drain I need to dig for raining season.

In the meanwhile, here is the first of the day

It is true what they say, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks"
And apparently can't teach you SFA either

I lived near the ecuator most of my life but, the 14 months I lived in Denmark.

I got there in May 92 and I was tripping right away. 11:00 PM and I could see light on the sky. I drank and partied for three weeks and then I passed out. During Winter, it was dark at 3:00 PM. I left Denmark in July 93. Good beer, good women but, I dont miss it.

Yeah Pete, they are a little latitudinal north of us, but we experience the same thing here. Do you think you can help me get this into the dog's brain

.....Only to return, new and improved, a dozen times....only to leave again, a forlorn hippie flailing around in the wrong decade....
