OK....pics are coming soon. Just doing some last minute editing....removing dumpsters, skid steers and such from in front of buildings.
Also removing family members, since we all know these waters are croc infested and that's the LAST thing I want falling into their hands. This Nikon digital I bought takes great pics, but at 14 MP, they are HUGE. Having to seriously shrink the pics before I even consider uploading them anywhere. Not brain surgery, but time consuming. Will have pics posted by tomorrow. |

Yeah, I know....but being cautious about reflections that could give aid and comfort to the enemy. Just being overly crocaphobic.....

OK….as promised, first group of Germany pics. I had to sort through them and ensure no images, reflections, etc . existed that might attract crocs….don’t want that!
So here are the first set. ….Munich. First is Autobahn A9 heading west about 70 kilometers east of Munich. Very little traffic on this stretch….wish I’d had a faster car. Another shot of A9 approaching Munich airport. Overcast and a bit foggy, but the usual scenic German countryside. I wish I could have got a better shot here, but this was out the left window…..BMW plant just east of Munich. Next trip, we take the tour. Archway entering the Marienplatz, or center of the city in Munich. Walking down Sendlinger Strasse toward city hall….and the famous “Glockenspiel”. This building is breathtaking. …..and the right side of the building. Amazing architecture. Zoomed in the camera a bit on the dancing characters. At the top of the hour, the characters move and dance with the requisite German precision. Another shot of the right side…… Close up of the clock tower. I forget to find out what this building is, but I was taken by it’s design. As you can tell, I like their architecture. Wish I was a better photographer. Next was Nurnberg. Shot down a cobblestone street in the Zentrum (center) of the city near the old Imperial Castle. Can’t go to Europe without seeing at least one castle. And a shot of the castle. The moat is very large and is rumored to have crocs in it. Beware! Map of the castle and a bit of history. Getting medieval on our asses…. I’d love to own it….plenty of room for Corvettes. I love this door. Imagine being contracted by the king to lay all these cobblestones 500 years ago. More later…… |

Generations back, yes. When my family left Germany 100 years ago, it was under duress, I'm sure. Our ancestors are from Bavaria, the area around Garmisch to be specific. Don't know anyone there now. My older sister lived in the Mainz area from about 1982-1988 give or take.

OK, Passau. City located in Bavaria right on the Czech border about 60 miles northeast of Salzburg Austria. Not exactly a place that attracts American tourists….which was fine by me. Beautiful, vibrant city. While we stuck out like a sore thumb, the locals were quite friendly to us and countered our efforts at German with their efforts at English, and they did pretty good. I’d love to come back here some day.
The view from our room….the river is the Danube. Passau is the “City of Three Rivers”, and is where the Inn, the Ilk, and the Danube meet. Cold and foggy that day….but had a definite European flair to it. A few pics of the streets of Passau…. St. Paul’s Cathedral. Magnificent building St. Micheal’s Cathedral. Still more to come..... |

Now....as for this, I'm suing them for copyright infringement. The least they could have done is spell it right.

OK….more of Passau.
Bridge across the Danube Looking south to where the Ilk and the Danube join. Park and monument at the tip of where the rivers meet. Sign telling the story. Had the English version, so they must get either Americans or British here from time to time. Another shot along the Danube. Unknown house of worship in Passau In restless dreams I’ve walked alone….narrow streets of cobblestone. Or in this case, I’ve been lead around down narrow streets of cobblestone by the Garmin. Barge on the Danube. And still yet more to come….. |

OK….back to serious stuff. This is on the way to Aldersbach. This building is a religious school of some kind…..Mz Friz says it looks like an insane asylum. Municipal offices in Aldersbach. Very ornate building. This was a neat little town….I could live here very easily. If I ever feel the need to vanish, this may be on the short list of places. There were 6 of these plaques that chronicled the history of the building back to about AD 842 And leave it to yours truly to find a place like this wherever I may roam… Excuse the blurriness here….last minute out the window pic. The home of the breeder where we picked up the dog. Very nice old German couple, and the house was way out in the countryside. Might have been tough to find, but the Garmin led us right to it. And last, but not least, a pic of the Bahnhof. Next time we’ll be riding this puppy more and driving less. Fun as the autobahn is, taking pics while someone else does the driving doesn’t suck either. Tchus…… |

Great pics, but my Dad was not too impressed. He was in Rotterdam during that WWII thing, still holds a grudge about getting bombed out and all. He still gets out of jury duty by telling the judge he is capable of being completely unbiased towards anyone......... as long as they're not a @$%# Nazi. I told him you didn't have anything to do with the whole Blitzkrieg thing but he still stormed off.
Looks like a great trip. |
