Default Dear Ford: Explorer

Is a huge, flaming piece of crap! No wonder everyone calls it the "Exploder". Myford Touch sure won't stop people from calling it that. Jackwagons.

I love the new Explorer and MyFord Touch.

I drove one as a demo, and fell in love with it.

Explorer SOHC 4.0 V6

Known issue that anywhere from 90K up the cam chains start to fail and make it sound like a frigging diesel.....

From what I've read the easy fix is in the vehicle and about $800, the hard fix requires pulling the engine.

Isn't worth fixing for the age of the vehicle....

I would not have noticed this was a parrot if you hadn't ratted him out.

So did the original thread, but you'll notice the rest of us were courteous enough not to mention that.

The 10 Biggest Auto Death Traps Ever Built
Quote:
5. Ford Explorer

Acrobatics are cool and all, whether you’re talking about gymnasts, trapeze artists, or the Blue Angels. However, acrobatic antics are generally frowned upon when it comes to large, body-on-frame SUVs. No one appreciates it when your Explorer does a front flip with a half twist, pinning you upside down in a hunk of burning metal. It’s all due to a little thing called “tread separation,” which at highway speeds caused a horrifying loss of control. Coupled with the Explorer’s high center-of-gravity and relatively crappy construction, this lead to quite a few deaths and a PR storm the likes of which hadn’t been seen since the Pinto debacle. Even with replaced tires, do you really want to roll the dice?

Not really. It's got almost 200k on it and doesn't burn any oil.

Just a bad parrot.

It wasn't the chains themselves it was the chain guide that is made of plastic and deteriorates. Poor design on Fords behalf.

the OHV 4.0 V6s are very stout.
