What are your Criagslist tips?

I have my 67 Mustang listed now. So far its been pretty good. Only one scammer email and one selling service. For smaller items that do fit in the truck we meet at the grocery store parking lot around the corner from the house. I would also prefer to meet others at a public location as well.

As others have said, meet in a public place (I always do so at a very busy Walgreen's parking lot not too far away from where I live).

I'm pretty good at screening people...there's always going to be low-ballers, but I'm upfront with prospective buyers that I'm firm on price (especially when I've gotten a lot of interest in an item).

That said, the last two items I've listed for under $25.00, have resulted in complete flakes. Everything from being stood up twice on one item, to an email saying their car won't start, after getting 5 emails in 30 minutes to say they would buy, immediately.

I have decided that I will no longer list any items for under $30.00, which will be my minimum deal for the time spent.

When I list an item for $150 - $400, I get serious people. Seriously.

Yesterday alone I sold $800 worth of crap...I am a happy camper. I don't have much storage space here and I'm not sentimental - if it hasn't been used in a year, time to unload it and get cash for the things I do need.

I also want to buy another house/sell this house this year, so it's also less crap I have to pay someone to move for me.

If their response starts out, "I will take your item for your price, sight unseen and my agent will pick it up" then it's time to tell them it was sold already. It is a scam. I have sold some big items on CL and I have had scammers attempt to pull a fast one but I've always been able to avoid problems. I made the bad mistake once of telling some fool, (who already had my email address) to F**k off & get a life. Bastard filled my spam box with crap for 6 months.

I had a lamp listed for $300 (which I got for free) and when the guy picked it up, he ended up dropping another $1,100 on other things I had set aside for sale, much of it which hadn't been used in a decade. That was my big money day, it's like hitting the lottery every week.

I've googled a few names on "suspect" responses, which all have come back as scams. WTH Latest one wants me to call a number, which is tied to a telemarketing firm, which will call you FOREVER, apparently. I am glad for the websites which document these scammers.
