A guy that lives in the condos up the street asked me if he could make an arrangement to nightly plug in his car at my house. The POA won't let him do it. I won't either.

So he made a deal with my nutso neighbor. He plugs in his car there then walks 1/2 mile to his apartment.

An architect that I worked with bought a Prius when they first came out. He told me that he drove on the highway with his foot on the brake, to keep the battery charged.

That's why I call EVs "coal burners".

Most of us here aren't big fans of EVs. Some of us can't stand them. But they're coming and at some point -maybe not in our lifetimes, we're all too old- we're going to be forced to buy one of these shitboxes.

Y’all are funny. But make fun all you want because you will be driving an EV one day if you like it or not.

This is the same argument of the horse vs the automobile people had over 100 years ago.

EV threads are great; so much fear, ignorance, paranoia, lack of foresight, & general knuckledragging. I don't get why people are so upset about something that has little or no effect on them. You don't like EVs, then don't buy one. No one's forcing you. (Yet. )

My son has one, a Jag, and he loves it. But he also has a second vehicle- the 2004 Exploder that I gave him in 2008 when he turned 16. It now has 200k miles on it, original driveline, and not likely to die anytime soon.

When the battery on the Jag dies in ten years that car will go to the crusher.

This is key, and telling. In America, you used to be able to CHOOSE what type of vehicle you wanted to buy. Competition was fierce and the result was affordable quality cars that plain worked, like the Model T Ford. At the time the T was introduced in 1909, there were more electric vehicles in the US than gas. EV's of the era could go the same speed as a gas car on the dirt roads of the day and could get 50-70 miles on a charge. They fell out of favor due to the electric starter being introduced and bigger and faster cars with longer ranges.

But, the public drove the production, marketing, sales, and success. Not the government. Like now. Soviet Russia had about 2 cars over the past 80 years, both pieces of crap.

The socialist slant our government has taken is trying to dictate what we buy, where we live, where to go, and how to be happy with nothing.

We must resist this tyrnany at all costs.

EV's are not the endgame, hydrogen is. And we need to expand and revisit nuclear power.

My high school honors colloquium course had this very discussion back in 1985, and we also predicted the demise of Blockbuster Video in the same discussion due to forthcoming technology and streaming videos.

As you might expect, car ownership among my neighbors was pretty low.
Those same Brownstones were also at max 60 Amp service fed, net some even were 40amp.

Unless the EV owners were under a rock for a week, I’m guessing they’d all be at or near 100% charge when TSHTF.

So again, with no power anywhere, how often are you venturing out and why/where?

You’re at home, stocked up on supplies, generator powering the necessities etc. what are you venturing out for?

hydrogen production and handling are expensive and hard. it'll leak right thru most materials. metal, plastic, glass....doesn't matter. fill up a tank before you go home from work, it'll be empty when you are having coffee the next morning.

The "Law of the Conservation of Energy":

Quote:
The law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be created nor be destroyed. Although, it may be transformed from one form to another. If you take all forms of energy into account, the total energy of an isolated system always remains constant. All the forms of energy follow the law of conservation of energy. In brief, the law of conservation of energy states that

In a closed system, i.e., a system that is isolated from its surroundings, the total energy of the system is conserved. LINK
It was never about "saving" energy or "green" energy, or preventing the pollution of the planet. It's always been about using those things as distractions and as tools to grease the skids to tyranny and limiting our freedom of movement.

The electric grid isn't nearly big enough, they know that, and that is the point.

simple search shows that H2 is expensive, hard to handle and store, and if often made from 'fossil fuels'. we could just save a step.....
