Default Got any "hibernating" cars?

This '72 Cutlass has been hiding in the car hauler getting close to 20 years! She's a 70k actual mile car 98% original! It belongs to my son, who bought it with his earnings from working at the local farm when he was just 13 years old!

My 1987 Porsche 951 has been sitting on jack stands for almost 5 years now. Part of me wants to sell it, part of me doesn't.

Dude, I'm from Lansing,MI where they built those cars, saw them all the time from the middle 60's on. I don't remember any cars with that ugly front grill.

That Cutlass is sweet! I assume you mean 70k miles? My 80 Trans Am is waiting patiently.

Why would a car with 70 miles on it not be 100% original.

Yep, my C6 418 LSx with F-1x and $100+K in mods has not run in about 8 years, all mechanical parts are brand new, no expense was spared.
Needs a secondary engine management system, of which I have purchased two (ProEFI and Holley), and have paid four techs / shops to install with no success.

This is the year I finish the job, as just waiting for my tech's commitment to a month straight of serious headaches.

It's been posted before but here it is again. Bought it in 1979 as a senior in High School. Currently the engine and transmission are out. The engine is on my engine stand and is preventing me from doing any electrical work currently. I was amped up about getting this done, but have been a resistor when it comes to spending the money.

First pic is early 80s. Second pic is a few years ago.

My 70 vette has been sitting in the garage untouched for at least 5 years. Needs body mounts, interior and rear trailing arms.

I ran out of steam after I rebuilt the 454 from scratch.

My '65 GTO has been sitting for a year. Needs race gas/av gas and I rarely drive it. I need to get it out before the brake and fuel systems go away. Runs great, rebuilt the engine 42 years ago, yet it only has 50k miles on the rebuild.
Cars that sit 8 years or more take on damage....brake and fuel systems, cooling systems, seals and gaskets, rodents, etc. It's NOT good for them. Click image for larger version

Related question.

How long can I expect new tires to last if the car is not being driven? It is up on stands and not sitting on the ground.

I'm wondering if I should sell the tires and buy new when it is close to drivable.

Many will say five years, many say 6 - 10 years, BUT, I say to inspect them yourself.
Lather them with a good tire shine product, look for cracks, especially where the tire beads set in the rim, and on the sidewalls.
If you are good with this, then check the tread and rest of tire to make sure no cracks, or any other issues.

With that said, if you sign off on them, drive them at under 55 mph for at least 100 miles, this should alert you to any issues.

I figured I was extending their life by having them off the ground and by having the, in the garage and out of the weather. It has already been about 4 years.

All things you did will help, four years should not be a problem provided there is no evident cracking.

Good luck, now go chirp and burn you some rubber!!
