When my son was 2 years old, he got tired of seeing the VCR blinking "12:00" all the time. I saw him sitting in front of it one day, and had no idea what he was doing, but later, the time was correct, even the correct am/pm.

When he was 3, he couldn't talk really at all. When he did talk, it was gibberish that only his older sister could understand. We sent him to preschool anyway, and the staff there said he was "developmentally disabled" which is a politically correct way of saying he was "retarded". We were not amused.

Now I know, he isn't retarded, he has "the knack". Thanks.

One of my degrees is in ME, from Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT). When I first started there, they had a dress code; jacket & tie required. After my first year, they eliminated the dress code, but it seemed like most of the EE students continued to wear their jackets & ties. Some even wore suits. So I think they are a bit different, even in the nerdy engineering world.
