Not for long.... the city wants to get rid of the name "Austin" because its namesake, Stephen F. Austin, was pro slavery. Soon he'll be from somewhere else. Folks selling those "Keep Austin Weird" tee shirts face a bit of a paradox.

I can assure you a zillion percent, that will never happen. Austin culture is like a religion here. We do have some fringe elements.

I had them replace the rig with the tuckable holster. I like that one quite a bit because the material breathes. Here in Texas that leather backing gets pretty gnarly when it’s 110 degrees.

Hello @Nox
Thank you for your feedback. We respect your opinion of our products but we did wish to clear up a few misconceptions. Our injection-molded shells are form-fitted by dedicated teams of mechanical engineers, so each shell is formed specifically for that exact firearm. No two holster designs will ever be exactly the same. Any product idea generated at Alien Gear Holsters is 3D modeled, 3D printed, tested, rejected and redesigned before ever being seen by the public eye. Every product we release is put through a 19-point Torture Test to ensure durability. This allows hundreds of designs for a carry style to be rigorously tested for security and functionality. The ShapeShift Modular Holster System may only be available for a minor selection of guns at this time, but they have a completely unique design that focus on creating a slimmer profile and never sacrifices safety for convenience. If you are finding that wearing one of our holsters is causing it to leave a noticeable print, you may look into trying a carry style. One of the biggest benefits to purchasing an Alien Gear Holster is the 30-day Test Drive. You have 30 days after receiving your holster to decide if you would like to return or exchange it. If you're outside of your Test Drive period, you may consider wearing loose-fitting clothing while carrying your current Alien Gear Holster. Should you have any further questions, or you would like to try out another one of our holsters -- please contact our direct Customer Service line at 208-215-2046.

Hello@AlienGearHolsters

The only misconception is on your end. Trying to somehow convince people that injection molded polymer holsters fit better than many handfit Kydex holsters is nonsense. You know very well, that the reason you’ve resorted to injection molding is that it is much cheaper and takes less time than hand fitting a Kydex holster. You also know that you can get injection molded holsters done overseas, with final assembly done here in the USA and still call it a US made holster. Raven Concealment made the same mistake when they opted to phase out their revered Kydex Phantom Concealment line and tout their Eidolon injection molded holster. From a manufacturing standpoint, it might make sense, but from a consumer standpoint, especially for experienced shooters, it’s a no go.

Your claim that each injection molded holster is fitted for that exact gun is also nonsense. In this day and age of customization, many people opt for aftermarket sights, slide stops and other modifications. What you’re saying is that you still have to give some leeway for modification or you’d basically shut out a decent segment of your consumers. Vacuum formed Kydex can in fact be formed around an “exact” gun and later even heated and reformed if a consumer decides to make a modification. Can you say the same for injection molded holsters? And it’s this leeway for modified products that adds bulk to an injection molded holster. You have to make allowances for extended slide stops, etc. The same goes for Kydex, but as we both know, Kydex is much stronger by thickness than injection molded polymer, so the added bulk to allow for modified parts is much less noticeable.

Your whole argument reminds me of gun manufacturers trying to somehow convince people that MIM parts are better than forged. Injection molded polymer = MIM!

Meanwhile, if you want to carry on this conversation offline, I’ll see you at SHOT in a few months and you can try and convince me again how great your Shapeshifter holster is.

As a marketing pro, that copy/paste answer means they didn’t even read the thread. Nor does it speak to any concerns raised here. Just boiler plate bullshit. I would have been very impressed if an actual person made an actual reply.

BTW, Alien Gear, Nox is LA SWAT. He knows his shit.

I’m just an every day carry civilian. My issue has less to do with the material and more to do with the total lack of concealability. Every OWB configuration sticks out from the belt 3”. Compared to a regular leather Bianchi or custom leather where the firearm is right against the body - it just doesn’t cut it for concealed carry - no matter how loose your clothing.

Even for open carry, this protruding design shifts the weight away from the body making it lean outward even with a Galco gun belt further pushing it outward so that your arms hit it, the door frames hit it, the car seat hits it. I love the cant mechanism but it’s just too much space.

Another huge issue is the retention release lever. It’s cheap plastic that flexes when pressed. 8 of 10 draws it bends without releasing. Very bad. I adjusted it extensively and it’s just not stout enough.

I do like the modular system and many of the design features are damn innovative. I also realize it is $99 for the entire kit which is equal to a single custom holster.

I received my IWB model and it’s fine. Even though the shell is plastic, the backing material makes it great for carry in a hot area under a suit jacket.

Real comments from a real person are welcome. Marketing boilerplate (likely from a digital agency who tracks comments on the web, or even a bot) is far below my professional standards for my clients.

Pro tip. Have authentic conversations with people who take the time to comment on your products ang give feedback. This feedback is invaluable.
