Default '72 frame, trans height.....

My '72 vert was a muncie car, and so needing an overdrive I put in a 200 4r trans, but had to cut and modify the cross support.....

and I don't think I got that driveshaft height correct, so at 60-80 it vibrates the shifter arm/handle like MAD.....it is mounted to the frame like the muncie shifter was....

so anyone with a early stock shark, can you put a straight edge from side to side on the chassis bottom edge just behind the frame rail/support and measure to the output shaft of the trans, just the yoke tube on lower edge is fine.....that way I can restore the correct height to the driveshaft/yoke/trans output shaft....

thanks guys.....

I had a similar problem on my '73 when I had it...

I was running a stock Muncie, so my car was unmodified. Welded in crossmember etc.

My problem turned out to be busted 'ears' on the Tail Shaft...basically the yoke end where the trans is bolted to the mount. The end of the transmission was literally just laying on the crossmember, ...Surprising that I was able to drive the thing as long as I did, as the problem was intermittent.

Something to check, there is a lot of torque and flexing in that area.
