I am not totally familiar with the history of it, but there was a lot of Gold Mining in the area back in the 1800's. The valley was full of Grizzly as well.
Interestingly enough, the first White person into the area was a fella named Benjamin Davis Wilson, who discovered it by chasing a band of Indians responsible for Horse Thievery at the San Gabriel Mission. Benjamin Davis Wilson was the second Mayor of Los Angeles and he also owned most of the land of what is now Pasadena/San Marino. He was also General Patton's Grandfather. |
