I just got home from the service this afternoon. As funeral services go, it was one of the better ones.

The picture you see in the slide show of his 69 vert, was in the casket with him and I didn't see for sure, but I think the put it in there with him when they closed it.

They started off with a guy and a guitar and a young lady singing a couple of songs. I thought that if Joebuck were there, he'd be going after the lady singing.

The reverend giving the service brought up how much Steve loved his Corvette, with the 350 horsepower L48 engine, auto, air, PS, PB. That got a chuckle from the crowd.

A couple of co-workers got up and told stories about working with Steve. Apparently he was quite the jokester at work.

After the service, there was going to be a graveside service, then refreshments at their church, but I decided to skip that. I had about 175 miles to drive home.

Thanks for going and representing us there, Dale. I know his family appreciated it, too.

Thanks for coming to the service Dale. The picture of his Vette was taken by my wife about back in June of '03 (before the arthritis really kept him from working on it). I made sure they left it with him. I plan to pick up on his dream and finish restoring it with the help of my father-in-law. He's been restoring classic Chevy's since he was 18 and is a retired paint and body man, so I know I'll have a great guy to help me finish my dad's work.

The 'young lady' singing was my sister. She's been singing in an around Austin for many years.

And yes, he wasn't just a master of wit on the forums. He pulled some strings and got me my first job out of college working in his IT group. That is where I truly learned how wonderfully disturbed my dad really was. Best years of my life. I've always tried to bring some of his dysfunction and irreverence to every job I've worked at since.

The graveside service was damn cold (for south Texas anyways). That old bastard waited to do this until the first real cold front. I guess he figured if he had to suffer then we all had to suffer as well. My mom made sure he got full military honors (flag, honor guard, rifles, taps). I hope he thinks we did a good job, cause I don't need him haunting my ass.

Glad to hear that you'll get that sweet 69 back on the road. It will be a good road trip to the NCM to see the bench for your dad.

I had forgotten that your mom mentioned that Shelly could sing. The fact that she could sing then is pretty special.
