Hopefully so!

My wife just had both hips replaced. She’s tougher than all of us put together, but women usually are. But she’s a personal trainer and is teaching a weight class today (she’s 8 weeks out from her second one). Back to ~200lbs on the leg press machine already.

My father is late 70s. Viet Nam agent Orange has created a lot of little issues. He and mom whipped out their motorcycle in 80s. Dad still has the nylon cord holding his elbow together. He was forced into retirement at 60 when he was hit in the head and broke two vertebra in his neck at work. He didn’t want to retire. He still works summers. At one point he had something like 5 part time jobs. Now he mows for the county full time in the summer. Sits in an AC cab tractor and pushes a button for it to drive a mile, turns it, and pushes a button for it to drive another mile. Meanwhile he surfs the net. Keeps him busy. But he needs rotator cuff surgery and likely a lower spine fusion. Mom is much more physically active after a kneee replacement about 15 years ago.

FIL will be 89 this year . Hip replacement, quad bipass and pacemaker. Was working part time for family up until COVID hit. Hasn’t worked since. Granted he’s late 80s, but since he stopped working his health has gone even further to shit. Just does nothing all day but watch TV, eat, sleep.

Stay active people! Mentally and physically!

Funny how it comes full circle.

I never spoke about my health until recently, as there was very, very few issues,, and of course I had no patience or interest in others telling theirs.

Today I discuss my health, as it helps to get other perspectives and approaches, also good referral(s) if you are firing a doctor or specialist.

Dad lived in the house until it was sold, then he moved into a motel until he could get into an extended care facility. Within a year of moving into the extended care facility, my aunt passed away. Dad passed after just over a year in the facility. While he did close the business, he still had his laptop and would help out his clients if they needed him. He passed 2 months ago, at the age of 89.

I hope your path goes as planned.

My dad was not as fortunate. He worked for the same international corporation for 45 years and rose to be a member of their senior management team in the US. One day he came to work at 64 and a HR representative from the corporate office in Paris was waiting for him to go over his retirement package. They treated him well but it was still a blow.

Oh, I forgot to mention.......FYI,

"Barbells enable you to progressively overload more effectively and are typically better for your heavy lifts - so for sets of 1-6 reps. Dumbbells are better for accessory lifts, endurance style training and muscle building. So, use them for sets of 8-12 reps or more."

@Flex, right dummy?

10 miles a day, 7 days a week, 12 months a year. Only time I won't ride is in an electrical storm or if there's snow on the street. I'll wait out a storm and use the trainer in the basement if there's snow. It clears my mind.

I loved what I did but my job changed for the better promotionally, but was not the job I loved to do. My location was scheduled to be shut down by 2022, and I had planned on leaving at age 60 in 2021 anyway. (actually, I planned on leaving at 55, but 55 came really quick and I promoted, so I gave it 5 more).
My stepdad, who was a terrible lawyer and socialist-- believed that everybody should have to work until age 72. I told him that was easy for him to say, being a lawyer, but what about the bricklayers, high steel guys, mechanics, etc.? He said he hadn't thought about that.
I had planned on lifting weights into my 80's. That didn't pan out. You have to do the best you can while you can, and make course corrections as needed to stay on track.

I ride along the board walk along the beach and look at the thinly clad girls, you ride to stay in shape.
