I have done lots of kitchen tear outs, and have saved the two pieces of solid maple butcher block counter tops from the job sites.....one is now a top on my 'telephone desk in the kitchen been reglued and refinished a bit, but looks elegant it's 15x23" the other is sort of sad, has a single basin sink cut out in it it's 25" x 8' long 1.5" thick solid laminated maple, is serves as my wash basin in the tool room of my garage, has a vice mounted on one end plus a steel corner brace, sort of a shame it's been abused so hard, but I painted some heavy epoxy over the surface years ago, it makes a great work top....sure as hell not going anywhere....
here is the strange part, it came out of a Kosher kitchen, the second sink and it's duplicate set of appliances....trick is, as was discussed with the customer at the time, something about wood not acceptable for the application, which is why it was being changed out....this was a smaller house.... the largest Kosher kitchen I ever did was a MONSTER about twice the size as my living room.....in a house supposedly haunted as was built on a old Indian burial ground....seriously swear, all I can do is report what I heard... I can still drive to the place without missing a turn..... |

Beautiful work Douglas, nicest one I've seen you do.
Q. How long did it take to glue it up, and how do you keep the glue from drying out from start to finish? |

Glue up is done in parts over two days. The dry air here means I only have about 7-10 min of working time. Gotta be organized and quick.
