My mom grew up in a racially mixed area of Baltimore in the NINETEEN THIRTIES, and had many black friends. I always called bullchit on this crap about segregation and how much whitey hates the brothers.

I agree, most peoples views of the other race are dated and largely based on a few encounters and less on personal fact. These deep entrenched beliefs helps perpetuates ignorance from both sides.
