So do guys on two wheels kinda giggle and point or are most bikers cool about it?

R1 is not what you want. Long trips will make it feel like you're sitting right on your nuts.

i know.

i pretty ruled out all those super sports.

right now the FZ1 is the leading contender and most likely will be the winner.

i also like the suzuki SV1000s, but the are pretty rare. (which also worries me about parts)

i thought concourse, but it's too big and heavy.

I've heard the "it's not a motorcycle" comments occasionally. Nobody has given Gail any shit about it, but most guys get the cheesy grin going when she's around anyway.

Most riders are pretty curious about it and know someone that wants to ride, but has never learned. The Spyder requires a different set of skills and is actually easier to learn from scratch, than coming from a motorcycle. At the first test ride we attended, I spent some time talking to the CanAm rep. He said they were surprised by the level of interest from motorcyclists as it was really targeted toward 4-wheelers, snowmobile folks and first time riders.

Cool. My son just got his license and could use a car. I'm thinkin' maybe this might be a good compromise for me as I have too damn many car already and no place to put 'em.

Thanks. Maybe if Mark and I go riding before his bike gets put back together (so he will have to ride the FZR) I can get a picture of me in something other than my pajamas.

We have a guy in our local motorcycle group that rides one. Everyone is very accepting of him.

Thanks. With gas prices being what they are, I may just look into this (ain't drivin' no fuggin' Prius!). My balance ain't what it used to be, so this might be a good solution.

Do you need a special license?

Don't look to get much more than 32 - 35 mpg with it, that's all Gail get with her's. If you look into a used Spyder, make sure all of the recalls have been performed. The early units had problems with the electric power steering and the original firmware fix missed the target. CanAm eventually ended up redesigning and replacing the entire DPS.

Florida considers it a motorcycle, so an endorsement is needed. Gail already had hers from her two wheel days. Florida has since developed a "trike" endorsement that covers the Spyder. Not sure about Texas.

TX still considers it a motorcycle and requires the 2-wheel endorsement along with the basic safety course. The stupid thing is the course is designed for teaching beginners how to ride on two wheels so pretty much 3/4 of it is useless for those on this thing or a trike.

Do Texas Harley dealers have on site beginner classes? Most of our local HD shops have a course set up where you ride their bikes (Buell Blasts) and completion covers the riding test for the endorsment. I don't think there is an easier motorcycle to ride than a Blast. I wouldn't own one, but way easy to learn on.

Oh, and this thing is freekin' awesome...

I'm down to 3 motorcycles right now. I sold my '52 Pan in order to carry on with a few other projects. Here is my latest project bike. It's a 1981 FXWG which is a Harley Wide Glide. I just welded my rear tank tabs back on today, so it will go to the powder coating place this week. It should be a great scooter when I have it all together. My daily ride is a 2003 Lowrider and my first bike which I've had since 1985, is a 1979 Sportster.

1981 Yamaha Maxim 650.
Pretty slow by today's standards, but was quick in its day.
