Right on. AI is the next tech splash to suck the low information crowd into sticking their money into the field, like Bitcoin and EVs. After the "smart" money has already been made.

Its gotten so silly, now there is a refrigerator that can image the contents inside and propose recipes using those items as ingredients and they're calling that AI.

So the software makes a list of food items and matches it against a database of culinary recopies. I figure I could code that in a weekend in between Coronas and cigars.

AI simply gives humans more and more incentive to become dumber and dumber. Remember when we learned the times table when we were growing up? The the calculator came along, and those generations couldn't do math in their heads. Now, the computers will do all the work, and the next generation will be sea slugs.

Yup, having to deal with all the idiots that will be taking their marching orders from AI is going to be a huge problem. Half the country already refuses to think for themselves and that's not going to get better.

I'll be the last man out again just like with those stupid ass cell phones

The other way to look at it is, when you stop substituting rote memorization for actual learning, maybe there's an opportunity for students to learn some critical thinking skills.

Be honest, when's the last time you used some algorithm you learned in school by pulling it entirely from memory, as opposed to Googling it? With AI built into our IDEs, we'll be able to hand off a lot of the grunt work involved in programming, allowing us to put more effort into the actual design.

I agree and disagree with this a little bit. Here's why. Rote is a joke, and I never was good at it, but being able to visualize complex mathematics in your head, and break it down into consumable parts that could then be reassembled into the final answer shows critical thinking, and mental visualization.

Next, the school systems truly suck these days. No Home Economics, no shop classes, most don't even have gym classes, hence why we as a society continue to get fatter and fatter.

I was blessed with good genes, and my high school years included honors colloquium classes, where there were no tests, but it was a constant debate and discussion about critical thinking. So I graduated in 1986, and my honors project was to analyze Block Buster Video. I staked my thesis on the fact that this technology would quickly become obsolete and become digital...again, 1986.

Another of the three classes on this concept pitted me against the chicken/egg dilemma regarding breaking away from fossil fuels. Infrastructure was always the limiting factor, and Tesla has been brilliant in building that supply chain, and other manufactures have caved to the fact that Tesla was right (for electric vehicles), but EV's are not the answer. I still believe firmly that hydrogen is the answer. Yes, there are many hurdles to overcome, but at least Toyota and Honda have not lost sight of the fact that EV's are not the end game.

My $0.02.

Lastly, it's the parent's jobs to provide knowledge and value and work ethic to their offspring, because clearly Randi Weingarten and all of her far left asshats think they should teach YOUR child.

I disagree and here's why... hand any fast food, convenience store or virtually any retail clerk $20.74 for a 15.74 purchase and watch them turn white... at least until the register says : "the change is $5.00 dumbass".....

Look, modern tech makes dummies of us all, sooner or later...

I remember my first Etch-A-Sketch, it was mesmerizing to the point I took it apart, the magical "tech" was nothing but threaded rods, attached to knobs driving a stylus and some sticky, silvery powder I got all over Mom's kitchen.

I still hear about it.

And the "Magic 8-ball" disassembly - that didn't go well either.

Well, assuming they make AI follow the three laws of robotics, I don’t feel, at this time, we have anything to worry about.

AI is why the population has to be radically reduced. More and more people with less and less to do for a living.

Every robot movie has the plot point that robots should round up humans like cattle to protect them from themselves. No laws are broken, no harm is done, if humans are in comfortable prisons.
That first law is problematic when it says "may not allow a human being to come to harm", and the second law lets robots ignore orders for the sake of that first law.

A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

The Indistrial Revolution destroyed a lot of jobs. So did the automobile and many other technologies. But humans found new jobs to do, jobs that didn't exist before and hadn't even been conceived of before.

There is absolutely no need for UBI.
