This Pronoun Thing. Please Explain.

You’re assuming gender based on appearance. But gender and identity are not always the same for some. There is some science that agrees with that, especially with regard to hormones and brain mapping as it relates to males and fraternal birth order. But I digress…

Step one: A person makes their pronouns known.
Step two: The person interacting with them makes a decision whether to honor that request or not.

It really is that simple.

The topic of gender versus identity is a completely different topic all together. Whether I agree or disagree that a person can identify differently from the gender that they were born doesn’t mean I will be deliberately disrespectful them (by using a pronoun that they have specifically asked me not to use).

Take VJ, for example. People will deliberately use he/him/his pronouns when referencing her when they know she has asked them not to. It’s deliberate and hurtful for the sake of being hurtful. One can have an opinion about her transition…but why be deliberately hurtful to another human being? It doesn’t make sense.
