Bumping this thread because progress has been made. Had to paint a kitchen and a stairwell, so not as much shop time as I would like. The stairwell kicked my butt. Hope to God that's the last time I have to paint it.

Got the corners glued up and everything is square. Got a lid for it glued up and mortised in a small, thin piece of Gaboon ebony to act as a lift. Ran over everything with some P120 in a palm sander. Got a lot on my plate today, but I'm hoping to get the hinge mortises roughed in. Onward and upward!

Finally, after four and a half straight days mowing my property, I got back to the box. Roughed out the hinge mortises and sanded everything down to 400 grit. Got a first coat of Bush Oil on it. Will check it in a couple of days to see about another coat. It's starting to look like something.

45, but I don't work 8 hour days. I mow until I get tired or it gets too hot. After I got off the tractor yesterday, I hopped right on the zero turn and did the lawn. There's another hour and a quarter. I'm tired of mowing. It will slow down by the end of June.

I agree. When I was a small child learning to read, one of the books was The Little Farm, by Lois Lenski, featuring Farmer Small. It dated to about 1940 and her illustrations look exactly like Tiki's spread. My grandfather grew up on a farm and tried to teach his 4 kids farming, but they were academics and thought it beneath them. He was a successful MD, but had a 160 acre farm he liked to keep a hand in as a hobby. In 1964-65, he flew out to CA and he and I picked out plants and shrubs for the 'jungle' section of the backyard of our brand new house. He was a staunch conservative, WWI veteran, hunter, church-goer, and world traveler. I would give anything to spend an afternoon with him now that I'm an adult.
Back on topic: Nice box, and nice digs, Tiki!!

Mowing can be very Zen-like. I get a lot of my best thinking done on a tractor. Just mowing long, straight lines, turning and doing it again. I actually corrected a flaw in my golf swing once while mowing a field. I thought the whole thing out very methodically, every move and weight transfer, and the whole thing just worked out in my head. I went to the range the next day and, with the very first shot, corrected what I had been allowing to happen. I was too eager with my downswing and was letting my wrists get slightly in front of the ball, resulting in pushed shots.

OK that is a beautiful place but calling bullshit. Mowing that is like burning money. And if you really own that land and have money to burn you could donate the hay to those in need.

Feck you Tiki!

I actually had nightmares and bad visions of mowing all that grass last night. Woke up in a cold sweat.

I too enjoy mowing and bush hogging. And yes it is a great time to be alone with your thoughts.
Currently I am cutting about 4 acres and fighting the urge to clear more land and throw seed.

Why don't you share some of YOUR story instead of throwing rocks at those who do?

I get pissed when mowing & trimming takes more than an hour and 15 minutes.
