What chores did you have around the house as a kid

I recall having to hoe weeds out in the field because Gramps was too cheap to hire Mexicans. Only pay I got was free Kool-Aid. Other than that the only work I did was because I wanted to. Kept myself entertained back then, same as now.

If I wanted Money ~ It was from a Paper Route

Chores assigned for Zero Pay other than a Room and Board as a Kid were:

Pick up Dog Crap in Yard ( kinda had to ~ when playing " Running Bases " Sliding into a fresh one meant we had to quit playing, and then do Laundry )

Yard Work ~ Side Discharging Ricocheting Rocks and Pebbles in the Eyes was and added bonus when running the power mower as an 8 year old back behind the garage in the alley

Getting to operate the Vacuum was presented as a Privilege to use a Power Tool

Washing Cars followed by a distinct pleasure of drinking from the hose

Trimming and picking up the Trimmings form the Thorny Sticker Bushes was instilled as a " Character Building " experience

Scapping peeling Lead Based Paint was also right of passage

Cleaning up Paint Brushed was an Introduction to the Aromatic Fumes of Turpentine ~

And Almost forgot ~ ( for Post Count and half a Barn Buck )

ADDED BONUS from this Chore . . . .

Clean the dog yard
Clean dishes after eating
Clean/keep room clean
Clean bathroom
Then anything else my Mom or Dad had us do.
No allowance other than my Dads saying "I put a roof over your head".

Take out the garbage, Mow the lawn, Rank the lawn, Dig holes for my mothers landscaping efforts., keep the pool clean and close and open it, weed the lawn, wash and dry the dishes and whatever I was told to do.

I never did any dusting or mopping etc, all my stuff was outside. I also didn't get an allowance like my sisters did for doing chores. But once I began helping dad on the job sites I was earning the big bucks...twenty-five cents an hour.

I had a morning bicycle paper route at 13 years old....started folding papers at 4 am, delivered my route and got another hour or so of sleep before school. 25% of my income went to the "household fund" to help with family expenses, etc..

This was in ADDITION to mowing the lawn, raking, cleaning out the garage. The 25% contribution continued into my working years until I joined the Army - never bothered me and I never resented it.
