Today she got the rest of the A/C plumbing connected, connected the tie rod ends with the castle nuts, and got her seat covers completely installed. She had to remove both seats to get the hooks to connect on the underside. (Also...she has no intention of driving with that steering wheel cover in place)

Yep! That's the first thing my wife said when she placed the order for the covers.

The amount of work she has done is tremendous. Very impressive. How long until its registered and road ready?

I believe we may be able to try the first test drive tomorrow. On the agenda for tomorrow is to install the clips and springs in the brakes (currently pads only), bleed the brake lines, install the wheels, lower the car, grease the axles and install the axle nuts. With that done, we're "hoping" the car will drive.

Once it's driving, there is still lots to do. Charge the A/C system, install the hood prop and passenger side headlight actuator rod. (those are on the way from Arlington Mazda) Install the airbag crash sensors in the front end (a Miata guy is mailing those to us), connect the airbag computer, permanently install the passenger airbag, and the glove box.

We still need to find a working clock spring for the steering wheel. Once that's done we can install the airbag in the steering wheel. We also need to install the driver's side lower dash plate (in front of knees, hides all of the wiring).

Assuming that all goes well, she needs to hand buff the entire car and then polish, get the car aligned, get her plates and insurance, and start driving. The earliest that she can go take her driving test is on Aug. 15th.

All that being said, I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I have to chuckle just a tiny bit. I posted this thread here originally on May 19th. I posted on the Miata Forum on July 15th. As of a few days ago, the Miata guys blew past this place on views. They're over 6,500 now.

Trust me...I hammer her on shoes and eye protection all of the time. She has two pair of safety glasses sitting on her tool bench at all times. On days like today, she goes out on her own and begins. Notwithstanding that, I should have said something when I took the picture.

If it were her who had stepped on the brake clamp and had 3/4" of metal rammed up her foot, I think she'd wear shoes without a thought. Unfortunately, she still goes out there barefoot from time to time.

Very short day today, but she did get the hood release cable attached, but not before shutting the hood without it connected. My fault.

The parts from Arlington Mazda came today to fix the headlight and the hood prop. Unfortunately, the part they sent for the hood was the wrong piece, but we did figure out that the one we thought we needed, but had, still worked. We went ahead and installed the piece they sent (receiver for the hood prop to stow it), since the one we had was old. We're only talking about a $3 part, so not worth bitching.

We had to adjust the hood for panel gap alignment, but all is well. She did not have time to fill the diff or the transmission. That's first on tomorrow's agenda. Hoping tomorrow is the first drive.

Can't wait for Vid of the first drive.

Awesome amount of work in a short time. I wish her all the best with this car.

Is possible.

That's ok, she's more than capable of incapacitating just about any human male, with the exception of her dad. I'm just too damn big for her strength.

On a serious note, the Miata guys have been a HUGE help in this endeavor.

That's downright AMAZING! Three months for all that work is better than a shop would do it in, if they would do it at all. What was the exact date from start to finish (next week?)
And all without a hoist as well....oh my aching back. I remember doing the same thing when I was 16-17....now, my knees hurt looking at her pics on the floor.
Well done!

May 24th was her first wrench turning. If it runs tomorrow, it's basically been a 10 week endeavor.
