For the most part, the early movies got GREAT actors in the villain roles.
Ricardo Montalban, Christopher Lloyd, Christopher Plummer... those guys really made the movies. Kirk: "The whole planet is tearing itself apart!" Kruge:"Yes! Exhilarating, isn't it!" |

Watched the last half of it. That movie just never gets old, although the effects are getting a little long-in-the-tooth by today's standards.

Wrath Of Khan fun fact: The "Genesis Project" video, where Dr. Marcus explains Genesis while a simulation plays, was the first piece of work on a major motion picture for a tiny, experimental group of ILM scientists, programmers, nerds, artists and animators, gathered by George Lucas to explore the new world of computer technology, as it applied to film production. This sequence is the first to go beyond wire-frame graphics and make use of three-dimensional CGI in a feature film, beating Tron to theaters by a month.
Three years later, in 1985, The ILM Graphics Group, as they were then known, would create the first fully rendered 3D CGI character for a feature film; a Crusades knight made of living stained-glass, for the Disney film Young Sherlock Holmes. A year later, in 1986, The Graphics group broke a third major barrier for CGI with a morphing effect blending the faces of characters, during Captain Kirk's dream sequence in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. In the 5 years spanning 1982 to 1986, the Graphics Group had broken the back of the three major barriers holding CGI back from entering the Hollywood mainstream. First 3D CGI, first 3D CGI character, first digital enhancement of a filmed character element. George's experiment was a success, to say the least. But the team hadn't even gotten started yet. Later in '86, George Lucas felt that The Graphics Group experiment had run it's course and decided to disband the project, absorbing elements of it into ILM itself. The main staff involved asked Lucas to sell them their equipment, found some jeans with deep pockets being worn by Apple Computer co-founder Steve Jobs and with George's blessing, turned the next corner... ...and thus Pixar Animation Studios was born. |

I love that movie! I told my wife to get it from Netflix as it's not on instant download. She's never seen it and thinks I'm a nerd for asking.

Khan: "Allow me to introduce to you Seti Alpha Five's only remaining INDIGENOUS life form and sheet. They killed seventy of us including my beloved wife."
It's funnier'n a mofo listening to Paul Winfield and Walter Koenig scream after being attacked by the Seti Eels, though. |
