Most people do not have the discipline and work ethic to work off site.
Too much temptation to do other things besides the work at hand.
Most employers are forcing their employees back to the office. The
production goes down and employers still pay for a full days work.
Lock downs are a bad idea.

As if there are no distractions in the office, like co-workers coming by to socialize, smoke breaks, noisy cubicle areas with no doors, constant interruptions, etc.

Some of us are actually more productive at home where it's calm and quiet.

One of the perks of being the head IT guy is knowing what systems like this may or may not be installed.

I'm the head IT guy in my household, and I know for a fact that none of that bullshit is installed on any machine that I own.

Some of that, also VPNs that can determine one's location, activity and too much browsing, or other work distractions. A bit Big Brother-ish, but the price you pay for working remotely in some companies.

I sell heavy equipment parts for a living so all my co-workers report for work every day and have throughout this mess.
However, our manufacturer allowed product support, technical support and critical parts analysts etc. to work remotely... forcing all dealers to communicate with Corporate via a "chat" function. Yep, no more phone calls to a live body allowed; we have to sign in and wait until a representative answers, and the entire time it takes for the rep to do whatever needs done... if i get called away while "on hold" the rep terminates the chat and it's back to square zero. NOT the way to support the dealers who keep the lights on and profits flowing for the shareholders!

HTF does a four hour workday "save fuel" ?

Leave office early to beat traffic. Less people sitting in slow traffic = less fuel burned.

Maybe, but wouldn't four longer workdays be even more effective ?
