I wasn't born yet when my father was teaching math.

Failed? Not so much. Took me a while, but I graduated Cum Laude with a degree in civil engineering.

Why are you always wrong?

You need to get a refund. At least 1/8 in return.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Phineas Taylor Barnum (/ˈbɑːrnəm/; July 5, 1810 – April 7, 1891) was an American showman, businessman, and politician, remembered for promoting celebrated hoaxes and founding the Barnum & Bailey Circus (1871–2017)[1] with James Anthony Bailey. He was also an author, publisher, and philanthropist, though he said of himself: "I am a showman by profession ... and all the gilding shall make nothing else of me."[2] According to his critics, his personal aim was "to put money in his own coffers".[2] He is widely credited with coining the adage "There's a sucker born every minute",[3] although no evidence has been collected of him saying this.
Quote:
Barnum was the face of the circus, but James Bailey was the hard worker who insisted on staying behind the scenes. Barnum once wrote to him that James managed the show “ten times better than I could.”[2]

Equestrienne Josie Demott Robinson wrote in her autobiography that, “Mr. Barnum was the advertiser, who loved the limelight, who rode around in the ring, and announced who he was. But Mr. Bailey was the businessman, content to be invisible...and interested only in the success of the show.”[2]

Bailey was considered by many to be a genius at logistics. His organizational skills for transporting people, animals, and equipment was copied by the military of more than one country.[2]
Thank you much for such a generous comparison.

Dad refused to eat rice as well. That was due to having to live on Japanese food on Guadalcanal.

The man is an actor, conflating his actual life with a movie persona is just silly.
Captain Kangaroo was also not at Iwo Jima regardless of the rumors of Lee Marvin supposedly saying so, and Mr. Rodgers was NEVER in the military.
Jimi Hendrix actually was a "Screaming Eagle".

I have read that, of all things, Lee Marvin was proudest of his service in WW2. His rank is on his headstone at Arlington. If you watch any of his movies, where he handles firearms, you can see that he knows what he’s doing.

He was a scout/sniper. When he was hit and taken to the hospital ship, he laid in a clean bunk and could hear the sound of the battle on the island he was fighting on. A nurse asked him if he wanted ice cream He broke down and wept thinking of the men he left behind.

He suffered PSD and drunk a lot of alcohol. Read he was drunk often filming, The Dirty Dozen.

Lee Marvin took the 1911 Colt his father bought for him into the Marines with him. He said his dad wanted him to have a good gun, not some arsenal refinished junk. He saw brutal hand to hand combat in the Pacific theater that involved knives, grenades, and firearms. Just a brutal, brutal situation. I knew a guy who was also a Marine in the Pacific and he was pretty wild. This was 30 years after the war, in the '70's. He had a blood stained Japanese flag and sword and a Nambu pistol he brought back.

Hendrix later spoke of his dislike of the army and that he had received a medical discharge after breaking his ankle during his 26th parachute jump. However, no Army records have been produced that indicate that he received or was discharged for any injuries.

A unqualified marksman.

Clint Eastwood is Clint Eastwood. I dont care what he did, if it was true or not, or if he served in Combat. I have never seen and interview where he alluded to be something he wasnt.
He has entertained us for decades.. And he, like many great actors that didnt serve, entertained us..
