Depending on your job any jewelry can be dangerous, an acquaintance was electrocuted by his Timex watch on a yellow gear "huffer" in the 70's when I worked on F-14s.

I never wear any when doing electrical work or much else physical. In basic training a safety poster showed a severed finger from a ring snagged as a recruit held on to a support as he jumped down from the bed of a "deuce and a half". Gross.

As said, rings and doing manual work causes a problem. I use black silicone rings in lieu of my "actual" ring. More comfortable and doesn't rip your finger off when you get it caught on something. Bonus points that they are cheap so if you tear one up, no biggie.

I use my "actual" ring on more formal occasions or if I'm not going to be wrenching on something.

I am a simple man.
No jewelry, never really wanted a nice watch, cell phone has a good clock.
Bought the ring a month before wedding, at Service Merchandise, in 1991, was under $100, I was damn poor then, graduated college six months earlier.
Very plain ring, 10K gold, round, no stones, has etching from top to bottom, not horizontal.
Only take it off to play golf and work on cars, still fits, no fatty finger syndrome here.
I place a high value on it, it is only symbolic, but what it sumbolizes is most important.

As said, I am a simple man.

maybe don't wear your ring when you're doing work like that, or wear a rubber one....a lot of people wear a rubber/silicone wedding band when doing work like that (or none at all)

I've noticed this in the last ten years myself. But never asked. The under 40 crowd.

Yadkin: I would have had the ring repaired as-is and kept its originality. But it's your ring.

I wear a traditional gold band however I am completely onboard with a folks wearing an inexpensive colored band instead. Screw the diamond/jewelry industry and their propaganda that you need to spend 6 months gross salary on a woman's ring. It makes much more financial sense to spend $100 on silicone bands versus $30k

I agree, save the $30K for car performance mods.

Being a Goldbug, I had my wedding band made from a 1oz gold eagle. Not a fan of jewelry but the ring is really neat.

That's cool! A bit of a gold bug myself, but as much as my hands are inside engines and covered with oil, that would never do for me. My 14k band is as plain as Greta Thunberg. Looks like a piece of copper pipe. The only time I take it off is if I'm operating a lathe. Otherwise, it's always on there. After 42 years, I hardly notice it anymore.

Bridgette Fonda is plain. Greta Thunberg is downright ugly. And her personality makes it even worse. If your ring had any connection with her, no matter how slight, you'd have to amputate your finger....make it your arm.
