I see no belt, and the depth is impressive. But what do you mean by "no wraps"? It looks like you have some kind of wrap on your knees.

Those are knee sleeves, not wraps.

I can get a lot more with wraps. Got a couple singles at 545 today with them.

Different Powerlifting Federations have various rules on what constitutes a "raw" (unequipped) lift.

AFAIK raw allows for a belt in all feds and some allow for sleeves but not others. Wrapped knees is sometimes its own class, as long as a no other gear (squat suit) is used.

In my federation I complete in "Raw Modern" division which is just wraps and a belt.

Sounds like more complication has got into the sport in the last 30 years. I had no idea there was such a thing as a "squat suit", although "bench shirts" were starting to be a thing when I left the competitive world.

Not that it matters to me. I have been doing "empties" the last couple of weeks hoping to be able to do some squatting at my new gym. My arthritic knee leaves me envious of the depth you got on that 495 pound squat, even with no weight on my back. You were well past parallel.

Our bodies age. You see any 70 year old guys lifting like you? Why not? Get back to us in 10 years and let us know how your body’s holding up.

I had to give up MX racing a couple years ago, not because I wanted to, but because my Doctor said either quit or start planning for back surgery.

My Dad is 75 and still lifts every day. Not as much as he used to but holy hell most people his age are lucky if they can walk from the couch to the fridge and he is running circles around guys my age and I am running circles around guys half my age.


Lots of people laugh at Mrs Flex and I for our strength training in our 50's..... until they need us to come and pick them up off the floor when they fall and can't get up.
