Only a karen would biatch about what someone builds to haul stuff, then biatch about what they call it.

I'd like to be done, but as long as my wife refuses to move I am stuck here doing work. Lots of construction projects and lots of hay and feed hauling. As long as I have those, I have a need for a full size truck.

My F250 with the 6.75' bed works well for my current needs.
If I need or could justify it...I'd have an F450 in a second.

Higgy! Where have you been? Great to see you back, and top of the morning to you. Yaddy's right, you know. Trucks have gotten bigger and bigger in frontal area and width and height, but not much bigger in capacity for towing or hauling. It's the 'gargoyle' look. Even the 2wd's have tailgates 4 feet off the ground. Which is why I bought a first gen Tundra. It's about the size of a '69 C-10. For me, workable.

Very glad to see you over here, Tiki. Hope you stay.

My F250 4x4 has a tailgate height of about 3 feet. Perfect working height.

Bed lengths:

1975 f-150 = 78" or 96"

2022 Ranger = 60" or 72"

Posing ends around 73". Sorry.

If I have something I need to haul that is longer than my truck bed, it either hangs over the tail gate (sheets of plywood...) or it goes on either one of the open or enclosed trailers I have. Too easy and no need to overthink a solution to a non-existent problem.

With those trailers, why have a truck with a three foot bed at all? Just get the Subaru with the rainbow flag decals and call it a day.

I agree. Nothing sillier than a huge, crew cab truck with a 5 foot bed. Better off with a Suburban or Navigator or whatever and at least have covered cargo capacity. Those trucks just look dumb----80% cab and 20% capacity. The trunk in my GTO's can haul more cargo.

Ram 2500 Laramie w/ Cummins 6.7L, here.

It pulls my 13K lb boat like there's nothing hooked up to the hitch and will haul it out of the water with little to no effort.

Then there are these turds. WTF is that even supposed to be? You could get the Escalade ESV and not only have more cargo capacity, but keep the stuff dry as well.

So long as that cargo is light weight. Payload capacity is the often overlooked and important variable.

I have a long bed dually but I've found my single axle utility trailer to be more useful moving light loads such as shit from Lowe's or runs to the dump. Its 10' long, a loading hieght of less than 2', and has a ramp gate. I just tow it with my Grand Cherokee and leave the diesel at home.

Ram 2500HD. 24 valve HO Cummins. Banks Stage 2, Airdog lift pump, 4" straight pipe with no kitty. Pulls anything.

Oh, yeah. 8 foot bed.

When I find myself building a new deck or a hay barn and I need to haul a pile of 16 foot lumber, I hook up my gooseneck stock trailer and park it across about 15 spaces in the back of the Lowe's parking lot. Real easy to load them and I don't have to worry about 8 feet of lumber hanging out the back of my truck.

And, if that isn't enough, when I get it home and unload the lumber I can keep it hooked up, back it into the structure, and I have instant redneck scaffolding.

The hell does wheelbase have to do with anything? Why don't you compare radio presets while you're at it?

Wheelbase determines bed length on the older trucks when deluxe and crew cabs were very rare. I saw an interesting overlay years ago in a book of mine of a '65 Malibu over a '55 BelAir. The cars are basically exactly the same size, even though the '55 looks much larger. It's amazing how small some of the beds are on the older '30's-'50's step side pickups. Small cabs, too. My '37 Imperial Coupe had a 126" wheel base and was a two seater....and it was a tight fit, like being in an airplane cockpit. We're waaay off topic now, but hey, what the heck....Click image for larger version

Wrong-O.

1975 F-150 GVWR was 6,050 lbs.

1975 F-150 wheelbase is 133", 139", or 155".
