Nope. Your reading skills need work. All you need is a VOM.

The introduction of OBDII made things a whole lot easier, but to be fair, electronics and computers got a whole lot better in the past 45 years. That said, new cars are disposable appliances that will not be viable long-term collectables, for those young enough to invest in 20-40 year down the line investments. Analog pre '96 cars will run forever, because they can be repaired or hacked to operate. The new stuff, not so much.
Actually the ECM in my '81 corvette controlled the carburetor, distributor, and torque converter lock-up, along with purely emissions equipment. You could ground a lead in the OBD1 connector and read flashes, or you could do as I did and buy the tool for Chevrolets of that year.

My '85 TBird was the same way. There was an OBD1 tool available for that year Fords, which was unaffordable to me back then, or you could ground out a connector and read "sweeps" on an analog VOM.

The new control board arrived at my local pack-n-ship at 1:30 so I drove down there to get it. The shipper had not listed my name on the address label and got the mail box number wrong. It was an internet order, for crissakes. They have to retype my address?

My buddy Dave who runs the shop, thinking that the express package was meant for someone else, refused it. When I got there and he told me, he realized the mistake so called the driver to return the package. Two hours later I got it.

Install and manual calibration took me about 30 minutes, and I'm back in operation.

Typical- time to purchase parts exceeds the time to install them.

So then why did you introduce OBD1 into a conversation about boiler troubleshooting?

Blob thinks that a circuit board can be "fried" by annual maintenance- cleaning out the combustion chamber.

Instead of making up stories about things you have no knowledge of. Tell the truth on how you ****ed up this time.

Used to keep a bent paperclip in the center console of my Grand National for exactly this purpose.

The irony of that post is amazing. Large Slob trying to belittle another's intelligence and proving, yet once again, that he has all the language skills of a chimpanzee. The self-ownage is epic!
