It's the challenge. Buying another ZR is the easy way out and might be very accurate at being cheaper than his rebuild.
My cheapest RC plane is about $2k. Once in a while, I'll come home and my wife will ask how it went, then I bring in a 30gal garbage bag. The nice thing with the planes is most of the main components are reuseable depending on how well they were protected. Engine, receiver, servos, misc parts all reuseable after testing, This saves at least $1k. To see WG's Vette go from Showroom condition to a shredder, then back again shows true dedication. Very similar to a complete frame off restore. He should continue to record the process along with pics and get it in a magazine. Should consider a sticky out it all |

I can't believe it but I actually agree with Slewfoot 100%.
Over 50 years ago, when we were flying control line airplanes (50" span, Fox and McCoy .35's, 60 foot lines, etc.) we used to go to the Alameda drive in and the 'old guys' (grown ups) would be flying RC stuff. Which in '72 was waaaay out of our budget. One guy, older, a WW2 vet, had a huge B-17 that was beautiful, powered by 4 OS .40 engines. He had spent months and months building it. Well, he got it up, was flying around, and lost control somehow....transmitter, etc. The plane winged over and hit the pavement hard, balsa, monocote, plastic, etc. everywhere. The guy threw his transmitter onto the ground, got in his station wagon, and drove off. His buddies started picking up the engines, parts, etc. and bagging them, saying "Bill will want these when he cools off.". 52 years ago and I remember that like yesterday. |

I am not knocking the op for the build by any means. In fact, I am in awe of the project and I look forward to seeing the finished product. |

Just curious, how does the Title come out on this? Stay the same? Salvage or other since it is a complete rebuild?

It doesn't, since the vehicle isn't being sold to someone in its current state. The original owner is rebuilding it, not re-titling it. All in-house. Without a transfer of ownership while wrecked, a salvage title won't apply. He'll rebuild the car, drive it as before, and the title will remain clean. Or should. Unless he bought it back from the insurance company as a total loss. Then things change. BUT, even with a salvage title, to the OP, it won't matter, since he is not planning on selling the car and is doing the rebuild for sentimental reasons.

I think most of us are hoping your son is involved so he can appreciate the work that it takes to fix something. Whether he is or not, is, of course, your call, but we hope he can take this whole incident and learn something for the future. Raising a glass in toast to the efforts ahead and a successful completion of this project! |
