Not murder, but close to it. Suicide.
A close friend and I were wrongly accused of money laundering. The stress of the legal battle weighed heavily on my friend, to the point where he felt there was no way out other than to take his own life. It was devastating. He couldn't bear the thought of facing a potential prison sentence, and the fear consumed him. I was stronger.
The evidence seemed circumstantial at best, but the prosecution was adamant about pinning the crime on me.
I was convicted. I immediately appealed the decision because, as stated here by this law firm, a person can appeal if the evidence obtained is insufficient to prove the guilt.
During the appeal process, it became evident that the evidence used against me was weak. With the help of a great legal team, the law firm Oberheiden P.C., we were able to poke holes in the prosecution's case, and my conviction was overturned.

O.K. How did OT let this little gem slip by without completely derailing this thread?

Yes. Co-worker we used to tease because he was a moron ended up stabbing his wife to death right before Christmas in front of their 6 year-old son. She used to bully him and humiliate him in public. She was maybe 12 years older. He was about my age. (30 years ago). Both were drug addicts and alcoholics. He got sent to prison for 25 to life but his conviction was overturned after 14 years. He was out for about 9 years living in a trailer in tweekerville and died at age 55 of unknown causes. Small blonde guy with blue eyes. Prime meat in prison, for sure.

A good friend of mine was murdered right in front of me when I was 19. I also knew the shooter.

Not a murder, but a killer nonetheless. Just after I got out of high school, I was working at a paint store. One of our short-term employees (think he worked there less than a year) had to arrange a daily ride to work, as he had lost his license - permanently - due to a DUI which killed the other driver. He didn't talk about it much, but he seemed appropriately remorseful.
