I politely disagree with the "no discipline" position.
Beating is wrong in any form, but I have used a fly swatter, or magazine, NOT to inflict pain, but to immediately stop a bad behavior. You have about 5 seconds or less and then it's too late. It didn't hurt the dog, but it was not a "positive" experience. |

Crate Training, No discipline and all on her own. Bailey graduated from her first round of Puppy School and will start Intermediate in a few weeks. None of our others over the years were crate trained as they were also rescues but around 1-2 yrs old when we got them. I had purchased this designer crate a couple years ago but never use it except to pile sht on. So we take her everywhere but its nice to get out and with her at this age , she gets into alot and need to watch her constantly and would like to go out to dinner once in a while. Well, a couple weeks ago, we just left the door open, put in a mat and some toys. She goes in & out on her own, lays down for a while or just sits there looking out the side, all while the door is wide open happy as a clam. This is great! So, later on this week, we're going leave for a couple hours with the door closed, set my trail camera nearby up and see how she goes. When she gets older, she'll have the run of the kitchen area when we're out just like all the others had. |
