[CFB] Week 7 2023 College Football Game Day Thread [/CFB]
WEEK 7
Friday Night Football:
Low-key pair of potentially VERY entertaining games for Friday night. Tulane’s offense is usually a great watch, and Colorado seems to be a great watch every time, win or lose. ***** Big day on Saturday for a lot of SEC programs on very shaky ground. Arkansas has had some tough, close losses this season, and it doesn’t get any easier on the road against Alabama on Saturday. Arkansas is 0-3 in conference play, and 2-4 on the season. If they fall to 2-5, hard to see them getting to 6 wins with their remaining schedule. Jimbo and Texas A&M also on the hot-seat. Already 2 losses and going with Max Johnson at QB the rest of the way with Weigman out for the season, they face a tough road test at Tennessee. If they rack up loss #3 halfway through the season, calls for Jimbo’s head will intensify. Florida and South Carolina meet with both coaches facing heat. Florida has been up and down yet again, and a loss here would be their 3rd on the season and would drop them to 4th place in the SEC East. Beamer at Carolina facing some heat as well, the Gamecocks had the toughest schedule in college football entering the season and it has roughed them up. A loss here would drop them to 2-4, and like Arkansas it’s hard to see them getting bowl eligible if that’s the case. LSU and their porous defense host Auburn, and they must win. Already disappointing with 2 losses on the season, BUT they remain only one game back of ‘Bama in the West. A loss here drops them 2 games behind, drops them out of the Top 25, and likely drops them out of any chance for even a decent New Year’s bowl spot. ***** Different kind of Saturday for the PAC-12. Instead of riveting hot-seat match-ups like the SEC, the PAC features some huge match-ups between ranked teams and teams still vying for the PAC crown, which carries a lot of weight this season for the 1st time in a long time. #16 Utah hosts Cal and it’s possible this is the week star QB Cam Rising finally makes his season debut. Utah could be the best team in the PAC, but they’ll need Rising back and need to win out. Their defense has carried them, but eventually they couldn’t overcome offensive woes against Oregon State. Utah staff knows if Cam finally plays this week, but so far aren’t telling. UCLA and Oregon State are both ranked and both have only 1 loss (in-conference). HUGE game with the winner staying in contention and the loser pushed to the back of the pack of great teams in the PAC this season. Washington State is also ranked and has just 1 loss, they need to win at home against Arizona, who gave USC fits last week. Speaking of USC, their game this week won’t impact their so-far perfect conference record, but it’s a huge game for them against Notre Dame in South Bend. A win for USC cements them as a legit contender, and would further cement the PAC’s claim to best conference this season. But can USC’s defense finally show up against an opponent that has struggled on offense lately? GAME OF THE WEEK: #8 Oregon @ #7 Washington This one is the biggest of the big PAC games this week, and the winner belongs in the Top 4 given the PAC’s strength this year. Winner becomes a heavy favorite to play in the PAC-12 Championship game. Also huge in the Heisman race. Caleb Williams has looked the best (again) but it’s hard to get Heisman voters to vote the same winner twice. Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix have been lighting it up this season. If this game favors the offenses, the man who puts up big numbers and get the win here will rocket to the top of the Heisman race. The game gets the 3:30pm EST ABC time-slot, so all eyes will be on this one across the country. Saturday's Notable Games:

And once again Georgia and Michigan play no rankled teams in seven weeks. Play cupcakes go to the BCS.

A Memphis player punch a Tulane player in the sack towards the end of the game. Ejected, hopefully he gets some additional game suspensions.
I'm sure it'll be on Youtube soon. |

Ditto.
What the hell happened? What a collapse. Oh well, they're still 4-3. 1st season will be a success no matter what, but holding on last night would have virtually guaranteed a bowl game. Now they'll need to win at home vs Arizona plus upset a very good team. Their remaining schedule, aside from Arizona, is #18 UCLA, #15 Oregon State, #19 Washington State, and #16 Utah. |
