10 hours of weapons training today
What a day! So great to see everyone in uniform and kitted up. We cracked out the .50 cal’s, ran team drills and did some insane conditioning involving shooting while dragging 50-60 lb sandbags. Holy crap I’m sore.
Handguns and rifles, live fire, smoke, shooting from mock vehicles, various cover positions, right hand, left hand, etc. about 20 guys and four ex mil trainers. One young guy in his early 20s dominated timed trials. Dude doesn’t miss. He owns one of the heavy guns. Everyone goes by nicknames acquired under embarrassing situations. My unit is calling me Elvis, but command team is calling me Deuce. It’s from a radio transmission where I didn’t have a call sign and I called “Echo 51, this is Douche 99...” One of the trainers took me aside with the commander and XO and said “I think we have a name for him!” And he told the story. I said I wouldn’t answer to it so now it’s Deuce. I have a feeling it will be mispronounced. One guy forgot to bring gun oil and now they are calling him Lube. Another guy was christened Sandwich. Don’t mess with Texas. |

We are on high security these days. Phones are collected. We had an Antifa infiltration a month or two ago. It’s a constant issue. We do background checks and vetting but sometimes people slip through. We have armed security, codes and other opsec. For example, we don’t know where the training is until we get orders the day before via encrypted system. Then we meet at a rally point, collect phones and caravan from there.
Very much modeled after Army green zone approach. We are a quiet group but because we are the largest in Texas and most professional, we get targeted. You will never see us in a photo op or at a protest. |

While I appreciate the concept and the training, if these guys want a low/no profile, this shit probably doesn't belong here. |

Playing Army with fake “officers,” armed security, codes, and “other opsec?”
Sounds cute. |

It’s unfortunate that we need security but that is the environment right now. This isn’t a secret organization. It is above board and professional. Our goal is to keep us, our families and immediate community safe. We don’t care about statues, looting, protests. We are 100% defensive, pro government, pro freedom, FEMA certified, and pro 2nd amendment. More importantly we are men and women who care enough to put everything on the line. We don’t just bitch on the Internet. I see it as an opportunity to do something positive and not be helpless. |

I can't speak for him, but I have found it pretty frustrating to see how many people actually show up for the good guys. Lots of people condemn what's going on, but very few able-bodied folks are willing to help make it right. I don't think anybody here would discount those who have already put it all on the line, but the job is not yet done.

And the fact is if someone served previously, it doesn’t mean they don’t have a duty now. In fact we need them more than ever. I’m proud of what we are doing and of my responsibilities to my community despite the attempts of some here to denegrate that duty. I’m part of a large civilian organization that often is called to service by the governor. We do search and rescue, work with FEMA doing disaster aid, etc. everyone is trained in combat medicine (TCCC) and certified as a FEMA first responder. We train in uniform and gear but we don’t show up in that fashion. Yet. We use military training but we understand we are not the military. It is a large, statewide group with elected command structure, intelligence apparatus and significant logistics, communication and equipment including EMT helo. People think all these groups are toothless rednecks. Believe what you may. Some are exactly that. But there are also very regulated groups, particularly in Texas with high standards, strict background checks (mine lasted three months) and rigorous training. About half of our membership is Special Operations. We are all praying we don’t need to exercise our rights and we have no desire to do so. But we stay in a state of readiness. I’m only two years in so I’m still learning. I’m not hiding it anymore. It’s time to step up. Even with my challenges, as long as I can contribute, I will. |

With your background and work history I'm not surprised and I don't mean that in a smart ass way.
If you're going to work in the Nuclear Power industry you're subjected to a fairly comprehensive background check - and not just on initial hire either. Every five years they do it again. As bad as it was it's gotten worse since 9/11. We were all kicked out that day and sent home. My initial took two weeks but I have a documented, solid work history. Yours most likely looked a bit more sketchy on paper; "Well, I played in this bar for two nights, did a gig in that one for a two month run" etc. They don't like that kind of gap in employment. At all. |

Being a musician I’m sure didn’t help. I guess they had a huge surge in recruits and work hard to eliminate nut jobs. From what I can see it works. Occasionally we get a nut job, but they are gone fast. For example anyone who is racist, anti gov, extreme in any direction isn’t welcome. Zero tolerance for drugs and booze. Not even a beer. They discourage caffeine even because it leads to dehydration although I see lots of energy drinks... |
