So...um...Texas...
WTF?
Link to Story So now what? My Texas friends, any comments? While I do not necessarily agree with the premise of the United States being United-no-more, this does bring up the conversation of States Rights. Or not? I'm interested in others opinions, not to start a fight, I would rather this be a discussion of if this is even possible today. |

I just really take issue with borrowing money to fund social programs that do nothing but put us one step closer to having to dissolve (or worse) the government anyways.
Spending and borrowing like we are will lead to the end of the government as we know it...why follow the train off the cliff? Last edited by Stangkiller; 11-12-2012 at 9:31pm. |

Sounds like I need to speed up the move to TX. Since Texas contributes more to the fed than it gets back, it's actually a viable option. Lots of hurdles to cross but its doable. Texas CAN stand on its own

In the last few years, even Texas has taken more than its paid to the Feds.

Can regular citizens actually file for seceding or is it up to each states legislature?

I've read 75% of Texas residents are not in favor of this. So then what?

Hopefully this is the start of better things to come. I'd move to Texas in a heartbeat if this became a reality.

41% of Texans voted for Obama.
I love how when Bush got reelected conservatives told us to love it or leave it. Now that the shoe is on the other foot you talk about succession. Truly this is not your finest moment... |

It's still a far finer moment than liberals have ever had.

It is a movement to raise attention, and debate, not a serious movement.
You're right this is a MUCH finer moment than your side. Your side riots and shits in the street to attempt to start a movement. The state of Texas is continually having to sue the federal government for a multitude of reasons, I really hope this "movement" brings state rights back not the forefront. I'm not for all this state succession nonsense, it’s bologna…but I have started making plans for an escape plan; probably Canada, but maybe Singapore, I’ve got a friend there, I'm a mechanical engineer, I can work just about anywhere. At some point, our debt and entitlement mentality is going to become unsustainable, probably at the end of the next four years. If the trend continues, we’ll be at $21T, I hear $22T is where it becomes unsustainable economically. Drastic changes will be made, and there will be civil unrest; just like Great Britain in the 70s, Chile in the 80s (or so), Greece, Spain and Italy now. Two things: I don’t want to be here with my family when it hits the fan; the other; this debt was not my doing; I don’t want to have any part of having to pay it off. Frankly, if things don’t make a drastic change in the next two years, I’m making plans to not be around here much longer after that. |

just a Texan here---
Gov, Good Hair was for secession a few years ago but now he's against it. when TARP was enacted he puffed out his chest & bellowed "we don't want that socialist money! by God, we'll SECEDE! ... guess what he did next? he quietly took a shit load of it & threw it at our out of control state budget who Gov. Ann Richards [D] handed off to Dubyah well in the black [sound familiar?] & Perry doubled down on it. apparently he's realized that he [we] need Washington, things like record drouth & wildfires will humble even the most arrogant of politicians. just ask Chris Christie,
