Ba a knife maker, they said.....
......It'll be fun.
That's it. I'm done. Blade show in a couple weeks, I've made as many knives as I'm gonna have, mostly folders. Got a couple of straight knives that I'm making sheaths for, ala John Hutcheson technique. I've made some Mokume heart pendants. Thank you again, Ryan M. Johnson, for sharing this knowledge. And for all this labor, I think I have accidentally, semi permanently tattooed my finger tips by grinding most of them off, then adding a combination of steel dust, lay out fluid, leather adhesive, and sweat. I scrubbed my thumb with steel wool to remove what I though was a stain, only to find out that it was a blood blister, that I have no idea how it got there. FWIW, whenever someone informs us that they make knives as well, first thing we do is look at their hands. If you have clean, well manicured mitts,.....fail. So now,....for the next couple of weeks, I shall be offering words of encouragement to other knife maker friends. These words shall be camouflaged in snarky glee as they toil over a grinder. Truly looking forward to seeing all of you that can make it, June 3,4,5 at the Cobb Galleria for Blade show, 2016. Table 8 C. Outta here......... |

I ground knives through my college years.
The inside of my index fingers always seemed to take the brunt of bad cuts, some to the bone. I just taped em up and kept sharpening. It was good dinero back then ... Luckily I still own all of my digits. |

Back when I worked on cars all the time my hands were like rawhide. I could pick up something I had just heated with a torch no problem at all. Every girl I "went out" with complained about them on their tender bits...
Then the winter came and they'd dry out and crack. Man, that's painful. It's no wonder today's mechanics use gloves everyday. Back then you'd be a sissy doing shit like that! |

My hands were in rough shape for years. I could barely make a fist with them. Doctor recommended Eucerin. Get the thick stuff in a jar like cold cream. It worked for me. Walmart calls their house brand Equate which is the same as Eurecin and $8 instead of $12.

I'd love to get down there. It would be an expensive trip, I'm sure. I've never met a knife, fountain pen, coffee bean or 1911 I didn't like.
I am weak. |
