HOUSTON (KTRK) --
Flooding is keeping the City of Houston Department of Public Works and Engineering workers busy after the floods dumped raw sewage in the streets of downtown.

On Sunday morning crews arrived at Commerce and Travis to start the cleanup.

A spokesperson for public works said because of the rain and the bayous getting flooded overnight, the sanitary sewer lines simply got too full and the sewage started to spill out.

City leaders were expecting this to happen so crews were prepared for it, said the spokesperson. In order to keep Houstonians safe, They're disinfecting the road and surrounding areas with chlorine.

Meantime, people who were near the area having brunch said they were wondering what the strange smell was.

"It's not a good smell whatever this is bringing its not something pleasant at all," said Andrew Bacon, visiting the Bayou City.

"It's just flooding everywhere it's super dangerous actually," said Houstonian Pierine Paratat.

Public Works crews may be out here for the rest of the night. They're waiting for the water to recede to continue the cleaning process.

The bums already flood the streets, sidewalks, and buildings with raw sewage everyday anyways...my building maintenance mop piss off the side of the building or sidewalk pretty much everyday.
