The Ford GT40 returns....
Ford has yet to confirm or deny any of its future sports-car racing plans, butmultiple sources have reported Ford’s factory GT program for Le Mans is indeed accelerating toward a debut in 2016—the 50th anniversary of the brand’s victory at Le Mans with the Ford GT40 Mk II.
You read that correctly: It seems Ford may have far bigger Le Mans plans than anyone realized, and those plans include a new Ford GT. The last GT's production run ended in 2007. As for the Earth-shaking probability that a new Ford GT production car is tied to all this, a likely time and place for the announcement of the grand plan would be the 2015 Detroit auto show. That’s three months away. Hear the sound: http://blog.caranddriver.com/a-new-f...car-successor/ |

That is a spectacular car. Sounds incredible...but, I think the first 30 seconds or so almost sounds like an angry lawn mower.

Back in 68/69 my buddy and I were at a Firestone store getting new tires put on his 66. We had walked outside and we saw the back end of a very cool looking car partway out the door.
We waked over to give it a once over and quickly noticed that the steering wheel was on the right sided of the car. Needless to say that seemed strange. The next thing we noticed were the stacks sitting right under the rear window. Hmmmm! Started looking closer and found a sticker in the left front window that read 'Entrant Le Mans 1966'. So we stumbled into a very real GT40. Beautiful car and I think I had wood for a couple of days. |
