Default Rolling coal will cost ya

A cool million.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/tuner-...defeat-devices

Had one of these coal rollers pass me the other day, just so he could spew his exhaust in front of me. He played checkers and I played chess, and cut him off a mile later.

Unfornituely we get a lot of the Lance Armstong want a bees up here at the lake.

They have a very nasty habit of screaming they have a right to use the road, the problem is they do not obey traffic light or stop/yield signs and ride side by side which is not legal up here on our curved, twisty hilly roads!

We also have a bunch of red necks that live up here with diesel PUs, and most of those people have a short temper.

I have seen- a couple of coalings. One was very well deserved by the bikes. That truck put out a smoke screen that a Naval destroyer could have made to cover a aircraft carrier.

As far as getting caught its a trade off as we get very few LEOS up here on the lake as its on the far end of the county. That keeps the bikers from getting caught pulling their bullshit so I guess it also helps out the diesel guys. (fair is fair)

I was about 12 vechicles behind the close to 30 pesty bikes driving my rather clean 15 Vette Vert and saw the smoke show and quickly turned around as I did not want that oil on my car.

The EPA's not-so-silent war on coal rolling and illegal diesel emission modifications isn't without warrant. In a 2022 study, the agency's Air Enforcement Division wrote that it believes around 500,000 diesel pickups on the road—or around 15% of diesel pickups on the road—have had their emission controls illegally deleted. In fact, the EPA says that these half-million trucks were producing the emissions equivalent of 9 million properly-muzzled pickups.

**** to the You EPA. *I* believe it's around 18. Not 18,000 just 18.

I've been dealing with spandex-clad, pencil-neck Lance Armstrong wannabees since the '70's. They all need a good coaling.

Point being that 'believes' and 'around' aren't exactly numbers to base anything on.

I don't think there is a diesel pickup truck in my county that hasn't had its emissions deleted.

The thing is, a properly tuned diesel truck that has some of the restrictive crap deleted will not only perform better and last longer, but it also gets significantly better gas mileage. And properly tuned, "deleted" trucks don't actually "roll coal."

So, what causes more pollution? Getting less mpg, or getting more mpg.

For what it's worth, I actually dislike the people who have their trucks set up to actually "roll coal." Douche move, although sometimes, it's satisfying to see asshole protestors get smoked, in the exhaust sense

Fuel mileage. Diesels don't run on gas. I say it all the time too, though. As a retired tech with a Smog License for 40 years, I too have asked this question over the years, with no satisfactory answers. Reduced compression= worse mileage. De-tuned engines= less mileage. Gasahol=less energy and worse fuel mileage than pure gas. And on and on. The issue is we have politicians with NO understanding of energy, engines, or how the world works, making the laws and regulations for these systems. It's beyond stupid. The head of the ATF can't even explain how a bolt action rifle works. Pathetic.

How does one roll coal? I assume my Sprinter chassis motor home does not have that ability.

Modify the injectors to flood the engine with fuel. Remove the particulate filter. Add larger exhaust.

As long as you are conservative with the tune, you can see huge improvements in both MPG and power with very little smoke. Or so I have heard.
