Default Your Favorite Corvette Story

I had just purchased a new 2008 White Convertible it was the month of June and I still lived in Sacramento.I was headed East on I-75 headed towards a great golf course up in the foothills.I looked in the rearview mirror and I noticed what appeared to be a Yellow Z06 approaching on my left at great speed. When the Corvette pulled even with me I turned and looked and there was an older man saluting me, immediately I thought to myself "Damn that looks like Chuck Yaeger" as the car pulled away I noticed The License Plate USAF1.I had just been saluted by the Greatest Pilot Ever that was quite a thrill for me.

I-75 runs east? Pretty sure that's a N/S type of highway.

When my cousin was stupid enough to let me drive her 25 mile old cfer... Told her hang on and buckle up. Buck twenty on the on ramp and she was screaming bloody murder. Made it to the 1st rest stop and man she was hot... I wasn't allowed to drive it again nor any of her cars after that. Last time I was around her before she died I asked if she wanted to go for a pizza run... I think the eye twitch was a no.
She was a total bitch so it was a fun drive...

Way back in spring 98 I just got my ordered 98 vert 6spd. Wife and I took a road trip/shakedown run that Sunday and stopped at this restaurant for lunch. They had a car show there and we decided to eat first and the tour the little show after.

Barely got to our seat and the owner came over and was bullshiitting with us and asked if we were going to hit the show. Told him yes and he asked us if we did not mind moving the car and putting in the shows parking area as it attacked a lot of attention. (that was the first year for the C5 convertible and due to GM constraints /problems not many out there yet.)

Owner comped us our meals and we toured the show and while being by my car answered a lot of questions and saw a lot of pictures taken. A rather good day and a great shake down run.-

In my 95, I was running with a buddy in his 2000. Out on the highway, we opened up and I chickened out at 143. Fast forward, I got a 2004 and wanted to break my record. I was on a two lane tollway, concrete wall on both sides, alone on the road. I decided to break my record. I opened it up figuring if I screw up, at least I'll be the only one involved. Faster and faster and lost my balls at...143. I chickened out at the exact same speed.

Second best was teaching my then wife, to do donuts in my 84.

Several years ago I was driving my yellow C6 in CA and came up behind some jerk in a white C6. He was blocking both lanes and didn't want to let me pass him. Since mine was a Z06 I waited for a small opening, blew by him and flipped him off. Jerkoff gives all Vette owners a bad name.

Oh, and I had my C6 up to 170 mph - legally - many times on a closed two lane road. Driving at that speed is VERY different from typical driving since everything is coming so fast. It's a rush.

I've been a buck 65 and still pulling hard and my brain said "stop"

So many favorite stories hard to pick just one, one was after I bought my C6Z in '06 three months later I had intake, long tubes and cam done on the sly from my wife. First time she rode in it and stopped at a light she tells me "it's running rough, you need to take it in" I just smiled

All the same stories but different years. I used to help Kurt at the Palm location of Phoenix Performance. Every year there would be a Corvettes For Kids charity Corvette car show. The show would benefit sick kids.

Kurt would slap dealer tags on a pair of SCCA Touring 1 racing Corvettes and we'd drive them down the road ( about 10 miles) to the show. Nothing quite like a full cage and five point harness for an "easy cruise".

All day we would be strapping kids in the five point harness in the race cars and they'd get their pictures taken. "Miles of smiles" for everyone involved.

At the end of the day, as we left, the cold tires did some really impressive burnouts.

One day I went out to start it up and go for a little spin. This God-awful noise from the engine. I shut it off immediately and I just said "**** it, I'm not in the mood."

A couple weeks later I went out to see wth happened. At first look, nothing obvious stood out. Laid in front to look underneath and wtf is that?

Got back on top looking in better and that noise from a couple weeks earlier had been a cat getting the Cuisinart Food Processing action.

Looking closer, what a mess! I couldn't stomach cleaning that shit up. The landscaping crew was around that day and I gave a guy $50 to get it out.

On the 2003 Caravan, we stopped at Bristol TN for a day of fun. Did a pass down the 'strip, but my time was shit, as my '01 vert was loaded with luggage.

Paid for a couple of turns on the oval. On the first time, I was the second car behind the pace car. The car in front evenly matched the pace car, and I did the same. What I saw behind me was people backing off in the corners and hammering it while entering the straight. Hell, that looked like fun. The turn ended and we pitted. Since I paid for a second turn, they asked me to line up to get ready for the next turn, which turned out to be the last turn for the group.

So, I sat and watched what everyone else was doing.

Finally, the second turn was led out. I was the first car behind the pace car. Entering the first turn, I let the pace car get some space, then I hammered it down the straight. Continued doing this around the track, until the turn was over (1 warm up lap, 5 laps, 1 cool down lap).

When I pulled into the infield, all the gear heads came running up to me and demanded I pop the hood. "What do you have in there?" was the main question.

Yeah, my car was modified. Yes, it had a very distinct sound to it. And when I was hammering it around Bristol, it was as loud as the actual NASCAR cars that run there.

Was a great day.

I wish I had kept that car...
