Julie has some surrogate mothering to do for a new colt.
This is Prince. He belongs to a friend's daughter. She bought him from some breeder in Idaho. He just got here the day before yesterday. He is a Friesian/thoroughbred mix and is four months old. With him being so young, we put him out with Julie and let her mom instincts kick in. She's had two folds, so she makes a great grandma. They get along great, and she stays between him and the other gelding. The other gelding is on the other side of the fence, but Julie calls the shots! If you'll notice, he is already as tall as she is. Hard to make him sit still for a pic, he is very curious and playful!

Wow that is a tall 4 month old!
Glad Prince and Julie get along so well. How long is he going to be with you? Is this a long term boarding plan? Looking forward to more pics as he grows! |

This is the Lewisville field. I and a couple of friends use it for a winter pasture. It's a cheap rent and just a mile from my house, so it's really convenient for me. Prince may be in it year round. It's up to his owner what they do with him. Once I have my place ready, Julie will be spending the bulk of her time out there. I'll get her a pasture buddy when I move her up there.

I'd love to have some goats, but probably just another horse. Someone is always looking to unload an eating machine that they got the kid, and then the kid got bored with it. Now they are paying a stable fee that is the equivalent of making a car payment every month. I won't even have to buy the animal, just load it up. I'm always getting asked to relieve someone of their over indulgence in their kids.
