Default Hellish WW2 Combat Footage - Fighting Japanese On Pelelui

Saw this and wanted to share it. My father was on Pelelui and was wounded on the third day. The eerie part of the video is, at the 2:24 mark, there is a wounded Marine making his way back to cover. He is hopping along on one foot after being wounded in the left foot. My father was wounded in the left ankle. I am not saying it was my father, but it does make me think.

WOW. I had not seen that before. My Father was weapons Company Sergeant 1st Bat, 5th Marines and was there the whole time.

BTW these were called "obituary pictures" because the Marine were encouraged to get them taken before going into action. Their bodies were not going to be returned home so the picture was all the families would get to remember them.

We'd be in some seriously deep shit if we had to rely on the dumbass millennial generation to defend us against something like that.

That was a whole different time when the entire country and both political parties had one goal do what ever it takes to defeat Germany and Japan. Thanks for sharing.

They are doing a pretty damn good job now. If only the Politicians would revert to the ROE the Marines used in WWII the "War on terror" would have been over within weeks of them starting it.

Yea, there are some young slack asses in the military. However, there are a lot of good ones too. I keep hearing stories of some of the youngsters around when I retired are now stepping up to the plate.

A year or so before my father died we were watching news about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. One young Marine in one of his old Outfit ( 2/7) was talking about how he was on his 3rd tour and had been wounded in his first two. When asked why he kept coming back he replied " We have a job to do "

Dad , A 20 Marine from WWII and Korea, turned to me and said "these kids are the greatest generation, they don't have to go yet they keep going back".

I always like seeing WW2 footage, particularly of the South Pacific campaigns. Wish I had done some island hopping while I was stationed there, but there was actually alot of WW2 history to see right on Okinawa.

Semper Fi.

True, but we are a volunteer military now. And I think you'd have to agree that for the most part, those who are currently serving are doing it because they want to. I still think that if we had a war and an actual draft and we had to start pulling in all the fine young examples from Black Lives Matter and Occupy Wall Street, we might be in a heap of trouble.

Then again, who knows...it might teach them to grow up.

Self preservation can be a great motivator
