Default So, put some miles on the C8

Handles very well. Plenty of power.

Odd that the coolant temperature goes to 180F and stays there. And the oil temperature never went past 176F or so. My Porsche Macan; 200F and 212F.

He's got an aftermarket exhaust on it and it's too loud. Drones at cruising speed. Super annoying- Baby Doll hates it.

Driver's door won't open sometimes, depending on how you're parked. Warranty issue yes, but points to too much flex in the chassis.

Must be cleaned by hand. Way too many openings, odd angles, drain holes under the trunk and "frunk" that can only be addressed by a careful hand wash.

Interesting design of the engine compartment. It's covered by glass but open to the air. Very difficult to clean the glass between it and the cabin, and the glass over the engine.

Pitiful cargo room. The C7 was awesome for that. Useless for a long trip, unless you are womanless.

Hate the passenger seat arrangement. Basically says to to wife/ GF: "just sit there and look good, don't do a fucking thing, and shut the fuck up." IOW: Not a chic manet for the type that I like; strong-willed, independent, and an incredible navigator.

Basically a race car. I like it.

I put some miles on "shank's mare" today. Too hot outside so I hit the treadmill.
Put a tile backsplash on my new workbench too.

Porsche's need to run hotter because the stupid neocommunist German engineers that graduated from socialist universities haven't figured out how to meet USA emission standards without taking the easy way out

That happens when driving 55 MPH. Don't worry. Hopefully, one day, you'll do 65 on the freeway.

Bullshit. My Cayenne runs at 176F all day, everyday. My GT3 also runs exactly at 176F. Every GM vehicle I own was programmed to run at 210F, including my brand new Silverado. Older Vettes run cooler of course. Newer ones got lower thermostats to keep them running at optimal power producing temps. My Gixxers also run at exactly 176F.

Yaddy, whose car is it?

FWIW: I remember reading back in the early days of pollution control (50 or more years ago) that one thing they found that helped was higher coolant temps.

The oil temp seems quite low too -- I don't even pound on my engine til it get 180-190.

Yep, it's why the 1973 LT1 thick casting Corvette heads are known as 'smog heads'. The engineers figured out a cheap and easy way to lower emissions was to run the engine hotter so it burned off the HC's

Driver's door...

Tell me if yours opens EVERY time if you use your right index instead of your left thumb. Freakiest issue I've ever had with thumb on a vehicle. Still thinking there's some setting I missed. Door seems to want a Shocker every time I want to get out.

Maybe GM took a page from the Ford playbook - gauges are just decoration for stupid customers. As long as they are designed to stay put in the middle, we don't get warranty complaints.

This is my neighbor's car. He bought it last year- left it outside all winter. In fact it's never seen the inside of his garage until I rearranged all his crap and stuffed it in there last night. He never once hand washed it- I did that the other day as well, cleared out decayed leaves from the numerous drain holes under the hoods. I've seen him drive it only once, has less than 4000 miles on it, and he bought it used.

The oil temperature is low. Proper temperature is 212F for rated viscosity and so any water vapor in the crankcase gets boiled off.

It doesn't matter which finger. I will always open but about half the time not clear the second (safety) catch. It will clear the catch always if I use the mechanical release on the floor next to the door.

There are strip type gauses as well as numbered temperatures.

It has been said that Mercedes and VAG program the coolant readout to lock onto 200F when the actual temperature is within a certain range. I can't confirm that except to say that my Porsche warms up to 200F then never wanders.

Guy sounds like an idiot. Has a garage but doesn't keep his new-ish Vette in it?

Oil temps: Yep, when young I had little money and only drove junkers. Some of them were mostly driven short distances so the vapor never burned off and left a white-ish sludge all over inside the valve covers, oil pan, etc. What a mess they were.

I'd clean them up as best I could without taking the engine apart, never had a problem with dislodging gunk and having it plug a passage up. Ah well, old memories of the junkers.

My dad also drove junk Model Ts and Aze when young so he understood, and was happy when I got old enough to afford new vehicles.
