GPS dog trackers

Anyone use a GPS based dog tracker? Recommendations?
I'm bored and was looking at them.

Not Apple airtag style bluetooth based either as one I don't do Apple and two I live in the sticks so if he ran off it'd be zero use.

Front runner so far seems to be Tractive.

Some are 500 bucks plus so they're a no go and so are any that require handheld receivers.

All seem to be sim card cell tower based tracking so 90% olus require a subscription of varying costs with some a full year or 2 up front

How's the cellular coverage in your area? Those things phone home using a cellular data connection. If one carrier is better than another, make sure you get a tracker that uses that carrier.

Decent coverage by all here, the house is actually the worst on Verizon than sprint was. 100 yards away and alot better signal however. All coverage maps show decent coverage, not awesome however. Zero outside wifi which they say saves battery if around the house which frankly I don't care if he's right around the house as that's where he belongs anyways.

We use Whistle. Great thing about it-you travel with your dog and you can set a new geofence. It also tracks their health-such as licking and scratching.

Went with Tractive XL, it's a fairly new unit being bigger with longer battery life. Also a pouch to attach to the collar or harness instead of the rubber bands. Easy enough to setup and update. Only signed up for one month to try it on trip in a few days(13 bucks).
Gps seems fairly accurate, more so if stop for a few seconds as expected I suppose.
Will report accuracy after trip.

Both of my Labradors are e-collar trained. It has to be done correctly or you can fuk a dog up.

One is hard core trained bird hunter. The other is only basic.

I use the collars when we are anywhere outside of the fenced backyard. Especially when I take them to our property or when I take one or both to the job with me.

No need to gps them. They get out of my sight and after one whistle or call, if they don’t respond I can give them a “nick” and they will come running.

We use the Garmin 550 pro.
Because you can control multiple dogs with one transponder.

I looked at those, couldn't justify that much cash at this point.
He'll be trained and stays by me now but he's a spaz of a puppy still and one problem is he comes looking for me. I have a "shock" collar already and use it to recall him if he tries to wander(no zaps just vibrations is all it takes).

I’ve thrown some money away using those collars. Somehow the dogs always got the collars off while they were running wild throughout the neighborhood.

I also purchased a tactical style small pouch instead of the rubber straps to keep it on. It's on his back of his harness with a clip also.

Absolutely as I live out in the sticks. Cell coverage pretty good for the most part.
