Couldn't live without a truck anymore
or maybe I just wanted something to tinker with:
$3200 shitbox 96 f-150, 65k miles, 5.0 on a 5 spd stick, base base trim, but the a/c works and it has a 3.55 limited slip. Doesn't leak, drives straight. Mainly it's a cream puff, body and paint-wise (especially for a work truck). It was owned by a business in Oregon and would seem to have been parked in the shop. Took $100 at the gas pump and still didn't fill up the rear tank all the way- will see how dismal the mpgs are, but if I can average 15, it will cost the same as my mustang running high octane at 16-17 mpg. Fluids, shocks, and turning the front rotors are in the near future- that and a day under my buffing pads. Pray for my emissions check though- it seems tip-top, but we'll see. |

oh yeah- chrome grill and bumpers will be forthcoming from the big truck junkyard in Oceanside. new headlamps are $65 per from Ford parts.com and all of that will really freshen up the look on the front end.

Thant's your old man showing again, Bunky ...I'd have that camper on sawhorses in the back yard so quick your head would spin...
Then a call to BellTech - if they are even still in business- for about a 4/6 drop, add some slick wheels, a hidden hitch, lose the rear bumper and replace it with a roll pan, and paint the grill and front bumper same color as the truck. Nix the chrome... It'd be SWEET! And I'm not even a Ford fan, usually. But it'll make a real clean work truck too, as Mike described. |

Yup, I've never been a Ford fan but If I picked up a nice older Chevy, I'd have some ideas along the lines of what you described too.
Mike sees something more practical and I can't argue with him as he sees things I just don't...yet. I'd like to see how he comes along with it as it is a cream puff as he says! For a Ford, you know.. I just can't picture a chromed possum catcher on the front bumper of what you propose, though... old man... jeez. |

I changed my mind- I think I will keep this bumper and have it painted body color rather than get the chrome one.

Wifey's daily driver is a 96 F150 we bought new. It has 110K on it now, and has been by far, the most trouble free vehicle we've ever owned. Since new, it's had...
1. Radius Arm bushing 2. Tensioner Pulley (worn spot, replaced as a precaution...hadn't failed yet) 3. Heater Core Other than tires, batteries, belts and hoses, that's it. I'd drive it coast to coast tomorrow. A/C is still ice cold on THE ORIGINAL CHARGE! I've never put an ounce of refrigerant in it in 17 years. |

The aftermarket for trucks is like 1,000,000 times bigger than the C6 Vettes. Any truck can be lowered, raised, sports suspension to handle like a mustang, to become a rock crawler, luxury items, HD bumpers, fenders extensions, campers, racks and MANY more.
I've seen websites like LMC truck, and it is an endless market. |

Just aced the smog check, now waiting at the dmv. I'm having thoughts of gt-40 heads, jba shorty headers, a truck cam and some kind of 5.0 intake. If I'm dreaming, then a 5.4 l stroker crank.

I have to say my 1989 F250 is bulletproof too. I bought it in 2003 with 36K miles from original elderly owner. It now has 51K. Of those 51K, at least 48K has been towing an RV. I seldom use it for anything else. In the 10 years I've had it....
1. Master Cylinder 2. Both power window motors 3. Dual fuel tank switch canister 4. Transmission / Torque Converter rebuild (developed bad shudder on 2-3 shift) It's a 460 EFI and very stout. It drags my 8000 lbs Travel Trailer around with zero drama. The previous owner converted the A/C to R134A in 2000. It hasn't been charged since and is ice cold. It's up for sale right now. I figure if I can get $4K for it, it cost me $11 a month to own. |
