Do you know anything about the history of it? Is this new old stock, or something refurbished that had been in service with our military on an ally's military?
Definitely cool, and the hard case is classy. |

It is from the Civilian Marksmanship Program, which was formerly DCM, Department of civilian marksmanship, which was run by the Army. It is now in civilian hands, but serves the same purpose. They have been selling military surplus firearms for decades. The prices on the Garand's are steadily rising as supplies dry up. What you see in the picture appears to be a CMP special which has a new stock, hand guard, barrel, but a mix of parts. Still VERY nice. $1050 price tag. Oh, shipping is free! I'm just waiting for the GI 1911 .45's to be released.

I think the pricing on all the CMP 1911's will be over 1000 bux. They sent me an email, but I don't remember particulars.

I have seen rough and tough grown men cry from M1 thumb. I paid $300 for my IH M1 Garand direct from the CMP. This was when it was luck of the draw for what you got. I included a handwritten note thanking them in advance for picking a nice rifle for me. I asked for either a H&R or an IHC. It shot great too. |

If I understand my history correctly, Uncle Sam purchased exactly zero 1911s after the armistice in 1945. I would gladly pay $1K to own a piece that served honorably for 45 or more years.

Ok, I couldn't resist, I had to do some research. You are right about the production. It was halted, but the 1911 was used until 1986. Operators get to choose their sidearms, so new production 1911's are still in use. |
