It's all about fundamentals and kids working on the basics at this level. These games are routinely won and lost (or given away as you said) on passed balls, walk off's due to errors, etc.. After all they are just kids that are still working on the basics.

Having a pitcher that's 6'4" and 190# is FAR from "Little" League.

Having an ump that won't call obvious strikes over the center of the plate and just below the numbers is also far from "little league" too. That's Tee Ball shit right there. He finally started calling some good strikes after the coach called him out during a talk with the starting pitcher. Even after that he was still calling strikes on more garbage Japan threw and you could see the frustration on the kids' faces. I do have to admit, Japan had two great double plays: the first was a fly ball out and a throw from the outfield to stop the run at home and the 2nd was the double play (tag 1st with a throw to 2nd and tagging the runner) to end the game in the top of the 6th.
