Default Awww Yeah!!! Check out what Governor Scott Walker Just Legalized In Wisconsin...

Manufacturing, selling, transporting, purchasing or possessing a switchblade has been illegal in Wisconsin for decades. The Republican-authored bill eliminates the prohibition as well as permits anyone who can legally possess a gun to carry concealed knives of any length without a concealed carry license. The bill also bars local governments from enacting knife regulations stricter than state law.

I always wanted to own one growing up. I thought they were illegal in nearly every state.

Decades ago, some stylized hollywood film about gangs and black leather jackets using switchblades....Brando?? anyway, I THINK there was a Federal law against any automatic knives/switchblades.....I remember a trip to Mejico back in '70 and smuggling one across the border hidden way up under the rear seat of a '65 Nova......but it got broken by guys throwing it, not as well made as it should have been.....in a way, would like to still have it, just as a curiosity......

I thought this to be the case as well... but it's not...

Since Walker signed this bill into law, I've been reading up on this...

Switchblades are legal to own, manufacture, and carry, concealed or open, according to the federal government.

It is illegal to sell them across state lines, or to import them into the country.

It is legal to sell them within the state of manufacture.

They are illegal in the following states...

Colorado
Delaware
DC
Hawaii
Illinois
Louisiana
Michigan
Minnesota
Montana
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
Pennsylvania
Virginia
Washington

... and the following states allow switchblades, with blade length restrictions...

California 2"
Connecticut 1.5"
Georgia 5"
Idaho 4"
Iowa 5"
Nebraska 3.5"
Rhode Island 3"
Texas 5.5"

Glad you asked.

The law banning switchblade was a knee jerk reaction by a very gullible government and the publuc, touched off by the movies if that Era portraying switchblade toting bikers, just looking to cut some innocent bystanders with their evil black knife.
Sound familiar?
Switchblade were primarily a ladies knife, as they didnt break a nail when opening a small jack knife.
And they have been around for years.
In Italy. In the 40s and 50s, it was a cottage industry.
And it still exist today.
I have a bayonet bladed "Mafia Vendetta Sticker", almost a foot long when open. Made around t h e mud 50s. Paid $75 for it at an estate sale. Now worth about $500 or better.
