Swimming Pool Thread
Not having any fun .......yet.
Opening the pool this season has really been a challenge, to put it mildly.... First off, staining has been progressively been getting worse year by year. Cleaned out most of it using the muriatic acid wash. Next, the tile surrounding the apron has also lost so much grout, I had to regrout the entire thing... Filled the poll, backwashed the filter and rinsed. Flipped the switch to filtration and BOOM the pump blew, water pouring out the shaft seal and the front housing into the motor... Here we are at the moment, bought a new pump, a variable speed 230/115 1.65 Hayward. Tomorrow I hope to run all new plumbing as the new pump has different piping locations.... Rickles 0/6 Pool winning.... |

Here's a sneak preview of the party he's having for all of us when he gets the pool done.
He told me he's abandoning the Jewish rule about not eating pork while we're there, and trusts us not to tell his rabbi: |

Pools... I feel your pain. I've been screwing with our pool/spa at the FL house.
A facelift/reno was the original plan until we found a water pipe had been leaking under the concrete long enough to create pool deck issues. So we tore up all the deck and while we're in there, replumbed everything. I've been waiting for over 1.5 years on a permit (city overload plus hurricane Ian didn't help) so we can repour the deck and install new glass tiles, LED laminar jets, fire bowl etc. Also expanded the spa to hold 8 people. Between that and a new heater, salt water generator, pump etc it's gonna be a wallet punch. Scott Before pic of 80s fab drabbery...

All that expense and you still use the four dollar plastic chlorine tablet "floater".
Oh - the humanity ! |

Selling my house with a pool was a huge relief. I don't think I'd ever buy another one.

As their confidence grows they can drop down to a lower step, to finally jump in. The deepest point is shallow, waist deep, 3'6" roughly. Even small kids can keep their heads above water. Another thing is keeping up the pool hasn't been expensive or a lot of work, but the rising cost of chlorine sucks..... Going out now! |

it supposed to use less power, but the reality is that it has to work harder than a single speed pump for the same results. Electric bill jumped up immediately, too. What sucks is it's hard to find quality US made pumps as everything around is Chinese made.

My pool "guy" charges $80/month and does everything and he buys the chemicals....
I haven't touched any of it since hiring him. At one point when I did the maintenance, chemicals alone were about $30/month, so for $50 difference - its a killer bargain. |
