Make sure you try it on an album you don't care about first

Incredible.

I kept every one of the records that I grew up purchasing as a teenager that went through Hurricane Ivan. The jackets were sealed together because they were immersed in seawater and then left to dry, and became glued together; the vinyl was all covered with mildew.

I knew they were ruined. But they meant so much to me growing up I couldn't bring myself to throw them away.

I kept them thinking someday I'd find a way to rescue them.

Spence, if this works, I'll make Thomas and Jeff double up on you and give you a twofer bee jay.

Leaving town for a week tomorrow but I will try this out as soon as I get back.

Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Pretty cool. I have all of my parents old vinyls, and some of the more frequently used ones sound like the before in this video....maybe I'll try it after SeaSix does and reports back...

I would think that regular elmers glue would work just as well.

Used an awful lot of glue. I think a thinner application would work just as well.

My kids who are in their 20's are only interested in the art work and not so much the album itself. The music they like, but prefer digital instead.

I love my old Motorola Hi-fi and technics stereo speakers...

Ive got alot of old albums, Beach boys, Jan and Dean, Elvis, Love the old timey art, but its hard to beat the sound the records make.

Still have my Nancy Sinatra "sugar" album sleeve..the record itself was ruined by a dumbass..

This process is nothing new. The Japanese made a product years ago when applied laid down a thick liquid coating onto the surface of an LP which would harden up after a bit. Used as a method to protect the record when stored for extended periods and not being played. When removed it also did a great job of pulling out the dust and other foreign matter embedded in the grooves.

Do you remember the name of the product or the company that made it?

Before I even made that post above I tried a few Google searches without any luck because I couldn't remember the name of the product myself. I used to by the stuff at the BX when I was stationed overseas 30+ years ago. The kit came with a bottle of the fluid, a trough that distributed the solution evenly across the surface of the record, and some small cloth patches to put into the liquid before it hardened to facilitate its removal later.

If you have a lot of vinyl, get a VPI 16.5 cleaning machine.
