Avoided exhaust disaster
Apparently when I put the new engine in it ended up sitting just a little further back than the original. This caused the exhaust to be moved back just enough to heat up the glass. I could smell something burning but I thought it was some insulation that had melted on the top side. At some point I'll take it to an exhaust shop and see if they can move it away from the body but this should keep it safe until I can get it there.. Luckily the damage didn't go too far.
The first pic is the bad spot. I got a fiberglass repair kit but all I needed was the resin and catalyst. I used an acid brush to dob it on the exposed glass. Then I used some paint to black it out. And finally I put some exhaust wrap on the exhaust pipe and held it in place with some stainless wire. |

You R the man. I wrapped the whole thing from the cats to the X pipe. The heat was killing me.

So far I haven't been bothered with the heat from the headers. I don't drive my car very often, maybe that's why. The exhaust wrap is good stuff, I could see how it could really cool things down.
